Default About to buy SHIII!

Hi!

First post here, just registered! So, the thing is I do not have any Silent Hunter games, but I am about to buy Silent Hunter III. As it seems that here are many veterans who knows about this stuff (and I dont wan't to do a whole new thread in SHIII general forum), I would like to ask for your advices on starting the game, especially mods. I have read many threads and guides regarding modding, but as a newb here, I would like to know should I play my first campaign (or what ever it is called) with the vanilla game, or just immediately download some mods? By the way I am downloading the game from Steam. If I should download a mod, what mod should it be?

It is really nice to join this community, I would have NEVER EVER believed that a game this old would have this big and active forums! (And that I would start playing this )

Thanks in advance

Hey LeBueno,

I usually play a game without mods at first, just to get hang of things and then mod it.

As for which mods, it comes down to personal preference, but I would recommend GWX.

Welcome

IMHO there are pearls of wisdom in the advice given by Dowly in #2.

Welcome aboard

Install as described in the SH3 Win7 thread, if it's for 8 or 10 it'll be the same, only XP is different. Then use multi-SH3 to create different versions, one stock game to refer to, others to add super mod of your choice. All are great, all have a slightly different spin.

Play stock game, get frustrated, move on to modded game, get happy. You won't appreciate the mods unless you do play the vanilla version.

Above all have fun, don't come home with any torpedoes spare, and definitely read the instructions before flushing the loo underwater.

Welcome, yes, it is a really great community and the members here are awesome. You could not ask for a better bunch of guys. I agree with Dowly, I always start a new game with no mods at all and play it for a while, a month or two. When it gets boring or repetitive, then I add mods to spice it up,

enjoy and good hunting!
Neal
