Abandonedware is software where there are no copyright laws or rights on it, so its perfectly legal.. how can I get banned for that?

I'm not saying you'll be banned. Just whoever posts a link.
Copyright law does not recognize the term or concept of "abandonware". Currently, a copyright can be released into the public domain if the owner clearly does so in writing; however this formal process is not considered abandoning, but rather releasing. Those who do not own a copyright cannot merely claim the copyright abandoned and start using protected works without permission of the copyright holder, who could then seek legal remedy. |

The owners of those rights may be 'neglecting' them at the moment, but they haven't been abandoned.
It's like the right to Freedom of Expression. Just because you may not exercise it today does not mean you have abandoned. You may want to say something next week.

Hi Submarine, here's the deal about abandonware here; you can discuss old games and how to make them run on your computer, but we don't allow discussion of abandonware sites or where to find them. It's been a rule here since 1998. Quote:
We're not saying what is right or wrong, only that we cannot allow the discussion of illegal software distribution sites. Thanks for your cooperation. Neal Admin

I don't know if the OP was spurred by the recent public release of ERT, but he might be happy with a list of those games which have been released in a like manner.
Rather than discussing trading and posting of copyrighted material which has not been vetted by the copyright holders, perhaps a list of subsims which are documented as "free for individual use" could be complied here? DangerDeep is one project I'm aware of. (Although it remains an Alpha, and the forum is offline)

@OP: You might want to check out Mobygames. It's a neat game database (not restricted to old games) that usually offers some screenshots or links to game reviews of the respective games as well. The browser is really useful since it allows you to search very specifically. However, it's not an abandonware site (it certainly doesn't store any downloadable games). And with eBay, Amazon Marketplace and the like, legitimate copies of old games these days aren't really that expensive or hard to get. Hope that helps

I hope you're not suggesting those games are abandonware, idsoftware.com is still selling them. I think a better example would be Bethesda Softworks giving away Arena and Daggerfall.
