Default hedgehogs in SH2, PQ-17 mission

are hedgehogs and squids in SH2 and if so, when do they show up?

also, just read David Irving's "The Destruction of Convoy PQ-17" great read but also a tragic story. has someone made a mission for this yet?

thanks,

One of the missions in the stock SH2 campaign deals with episode of the destruction of PQ17. You can play it standalone if you copy the file from your campaigns to your singlemissions folder. I can`t remember right now the title of the mission, though, so open all with notepad and see which one it is.

Happy hunting

No, squids and hedgehogs are not modelled in SHII. Several attempts were made to change that, but the best that I know of simply had one depth charge be thrown forward instead of sideways.

not true !

the ai castles ARE throwing squids from the bow.

[WEAPON7] ; "Squid"
Type = DEPTHCHARGE
node = DCT1
TravRange1 = 0,0,0
System = DepthChargeSquidMortar
MagazineSize1 = 3
MagazineCount1 = 8
AmmoType1 = DepthChargeGB_Squid

the squid launcher is a default thrower and the squid charge is a default wep in both sh2 and dc.
the default castle class corvette (ncastle.udf) has a bow node that throws a squid .
it is the only default unit in the games equipped with squid.
there are 3 in the launcher but you must press 3 times to launch all 3.

the light for the squid is on the k gun side.
there are also 2 kguns so you have 3 lights.
since this can be a bit confusing i suggest removing one of the k guns.
this is how i set up the WPL/EGL stat unit back in 2003
i found it very effective in multi, especially when uboat forgot about the possibility.
oh man you shoulda heard the cursing ....

you can, if you wish, then convert remaining k gun to be a second squid thrower.
or both of em , but the throws will come up very short compared to the ones off the bow node.

sergbuto made a loch class with 2 bow nodes that i really liked.
he also converted some american units to simulate hedgehogs using torpedoes.

I also seem to recall that most of the cursing was directed at you,Buk. :p

You had more kills with the Squids at WPL than anyone else I can remember.You were deadly with the Squids.

I had a few kills with it,but those were more luck than anything else.

THERE SHOULD BE SOME, but I havn't encountered neither Squid nor Hedgehog.

The only thing I have encountered is depth charges. (Maybe since DDs in SH2 are lethal, I didn't dare to get close to them)

But anyway, DCs are already enough for DDs. I don't wanta Squid / Hedgehog anymore on them or they will be dangerous

ooo lordy if i got a castle some sub was a-sinkin.

Prolly has sumthin to do with me having tested the unit for a month before pitching
it to the wpl/egl "authorities" as a player unit. i simply had more practice.
no doubt im also more adept then a few others at using the japanese subs for the same reason , but

i think it helped that i didnt blurt out at the beginning of the game
" COOL I GOT SQUIDS !!!!! ". :rotfl:

recent quinnipiac polls have shown that the cursing was in direct proportion to the shock players felt when hearing " DC in the water " while trying for that "wait til the last moment headhunt shot" and then seeing the squids fly off my bow and land / explode on them thru peri .

@ peterloo - the castle class is using a squid thrower and charge , it is reported as a "dc in the water" by the crew. there is no distinction.
