The elbow is a part, but not the full feature of the device.

Why do I have a feeling it's some kind a weird Victorian invention that has a radio speaker glued to a prostetic arm

No radio speaker involved.

Nope, drifting away now.

I virtually gave it to Aktungbby, but he didn't put down the actual full answer, Betonov missed it by a whisker.

Come on, you're putting around the hole now.

Close enough, it's got two of the right words in it.

It's a Prosthetic arm. made for Leading Seaman William Horne, gunlayer on HMS Doon who lost his arm during the Battle of Jutland.

Aktungbby came very very close with:

Quote:
By arms length do you mean the (Missing) radius and ulna and the humerus to the shoulder?
But didn't actually back it up with explaining what was replacing the missing radius, ulna and humerus to the shoulder.

For a better picture, see here:

Over to you Jim.

BUGGER: the closest I got to it after thoroughly depressing myself about WWI wounding on the industrial scale were these two:

&16th century...apparently nothing good goes outta style BBY???!! Are you quite sure Seaman Horne wasn't wounded in the Hartlepool raid when HMS Doon was straddled:
"She was straddled by three salvoes with one near miss by an 11-inch shell grazing the after edge of the foremost funnel, damaging a Berthon collapsible lifeboat, before going overboard and bursting on impact with the water. She suffered splinter damage and had her wireless, aft gun and torpedo tube put out of action. She suffered 3 dead and 6 wounded. She was assigned after to Humber flotilla "and remained for there 'for the duration" https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Order_of_battle_at_Jutland does not show HMS Doon; and I still cannot come up with Seaman Hornes rather fabulous arm! Even under: "Seaman William Horne's prosthetic arm'

Valid point that, a quick google does show Doon not being in Jutland, I guess it could be that Seaman Horne was wounded at Jutland, got his new arm and was transferred to Doon. I put the link to the article at the Imperial War Museum in the reveal, you might want to fire off an email to them to get some more details on the story behind it.
