[SH1] Silent Hunter1 award conditions

Heho,
I have been playing SH1 nearly as long as it has been out there. What I however could never find out is how the awards (medals/citations) are awarded or rather
on which basis they are awarded.

Has anyone some information on this?

Yes medals seem to be quite random, even if somehow linked to success in your patrols (tonnage primarily). One must note however that in real life they were also a bit random -some commanders got medals for what others got nothing- and also some medals like the purple heart are given to those wounded in combat and as such have no direct link to the game's features (You can't be wounded in Sh1, only your sub can take damage).

I can't dispute what Hitman said. I remember I had a career where I got the MOH, but I couldn't really say why. It was a good career, and I had what I considered very respectable career tonnage (for a S-boat, at least), but would you get a MOH for that? Who knows.
