Construction is nearly complete on DARPA's crazy submarine-hunting drone

DARPA estimates that use of the vessel would cost drastically less than that of a typical naval destroyer, operating on roughly $15k to $20k per day — compared to around $700k per day for a traditional warship. The agency also noted how the drone has the ability to carry a larger payload than conventional ship-launched surface vehicles, and also possesses the capacity to operate entirely on its own, launching and returning to a pier without any kind of human intervention. Because of this, a companion ship isn’t required, which saves even more time and money.

Totally Cool! Not a far departure from the Russian moguls private yacht, "A', which I observed anchored in S.F Bay(posted in Favorite ships thread a while back). Even at a distance of a mile it was a stunner! We might be a bit behind on this!

His Sailing Yacht A is no slouch either: just out. Carbon fiber masts built in UK: Missiles & blonds (not yet included) @Gargamel: back to the basement drawing-board for the next year's RC regatta

ONKEL: Didn't mean to digress but you're interested in sailing and there's a cool lighthouse in the shot.

Just the one-touch controls blow my mind. If it'll take a 'copter it'll take a cruise-missile too and the $ail$ make it cheaper to operate at 24 knots!
