The North Carolina is definitely NOT in any condition to go to sea. I was on it this summer.

Still....

Guilty pleasure....

I watched Pacific Rim.

I loved the movie, but only because I went into it wanting to see great CGI Jaeger vs Kaiju fights, the movie delivered for me.

Some of the lines were hokey, but I really like Guillermo Del Toro so I am kinda biased.

Action= this movie delivers

Just do not expect a literary masterpiece. Some of the lines were BAAAAD!

It was well acted, the black dude that played the Marshall was my favorite character, as he was the most consistent and interesting.

This movie fell short as the main characters dillemma was presented from the door, leaving little mystery, but I found myself wanting to know more about the Marshall. (The guy that played him seemed to be fighting back a British accent at times, my only beef)

Idris Elba, was his name, he was my favorite in the movie, but he cannot hold an American accent well, which is fine, my british accent impersonation always turns scottish.

Funny he did a very good job in The Wire of course maybe they had a more picky director or a better voice coach. He was Stringer Bell in the The Wire.I think his folks are from Nigeria originally he was born in the UK though.

I watched two movies last night.

1) Killing Season with De Niro and John Travolta - About a retired NATO Col. from the Bosnian War in the 90's who meets a Serb who was there. He quickly finds out that the Serb has a score to settle.

Sucked. Don't see it. De Niro should never have done that one. The best part is that Nick Cage was originally supposed to be in it.

It's one of "those" kind of movies that you just don't watch.

2) The Colony with Laurence Fishburne and Bill Paxton - About life after the next Ice Age, Colony 7 sends a team to investigate an SOS from Colony 5. DO watch this one. It's kind of a low-budget Alien-type of movie. It was pretty entertaining if you don't think of technicalities. I liked it.

There's a funny movie. That was worth seeing.

Finally made time to sit and watch The Thin Red Line.

I thought it was excellent. Great movie and very interesting storytelling.

I just finished watching Drive.

What an utter load of drivel! 1:40 is the length of the movie, take away either Carey Mulligan or Ryan Gosling pouting into nothingness and you have about (and this is being generous) 10 minutes left of action - with a total of about 1 minute of chase-like driving that we'd actually expect. The music score is horrendous with a howl-theme running through it which did nothing for this movie, but made my ears hurt.

The ending is bad, concluding a bad, bad film.

Don't bother with it, not even for the Christina Hendricks scenes. Seriously, don't.

I've seen The Heat twice by now...watched it with a friend two nights ago and watched it because a family member got it for Christmas.

Decent movie. Not blowout funny....but a laugh or two here and there.

TBH, Melissa McCarthy isn't as funny as people say she is.

I've seen a few movies since the last post.

Anchorman 2 - Must See if you like comedies. Also, must see the first one.

Seal Team Six: The Raid On Osama Bin Laden - Low budget knockoff of Zero Dark Thirty

Battle Ground - Horrible WW1 movie. Basically two and 3 quarters British Soldiers crawling in the mud and one of the men's wife has a homemade abortion at the hands of another's wife. Really don't recommend it at all.

And The Godfather never gets old. Italian Mafia movies NEVER get old.

I saw the trailer for that. I thought the troops had an Aussie soundtrack.

Anyway, in my opinion it looked crap, so I'll definitely be staying away from it.

I watched Employee of the Month a couple of days ago. A surprisingly good film. It'll never set the film world alight, but it was good for quite a few laughs. Also, Jessica Simpson is always easy on the eyes...

I really liked American Hustle.

It was a bit odd, but the character interactions were priceless.

Louie Ck and Bradley Coopers character interactions always got a laugh.

All the characters were utterly pathetic, all of them just scum.

Jennifer Lawrences repulsive character, and Christian Bales, just as equally repulsive, had some great interactions.

What I found funny about this movie, was the only truly noble character, was the Over the top stereotypical Jersey Guido politician, played by Jeremy Renner, also a great job by him.

I don't see this movie getting academy accolades, it is not mainstream enough, in the sense of hollywood cookie cutter plots, But I really liked it,.

Without spoiling it, you know a plot twist is going to come, but you see it falling apart as the movie progresses, totally deteriorates, then it comes back around when you least expected it. Brilliantly done.

The above is IMHO, I liked Taken 2, and hated Olympus has Fallen. So my tastes can be odd.
