Now, in RSRDC you sometimes get the message that you are to patrol a certain area radius xx miles centered on yy, but feel free to chase shipping outside that radius and return. I'll bet he threw the continuous/non-continuous switch.

And it only makes sense. What would Lockwood say if you returned to Pearl and your patrol report said "radar contact 15000 yards outside patrol radius. Did not pursue."? I believe it would be a most memorable occasion......

As far as the hunter-killer groups, the Japanese didn't have enough DDs to escort the shipping they had. Basically they didn't have the luxury of being able to form hunter-killer groups. I can understand Ducimus putting them in their for sheer difficulty. If it's too much trouble to hunt and kill the hunter-killer groups I don't think it's too bad if they remain. We have bigger fish to fry. If it's easy then let's cut the number of hunter-killers in half or so.

So it was RSRDC that gave you the parameters of your patrol. I like that, and the "non-continuous" setting.

@cdrsubron7: OK radar watcher... I meant eye-candy eye-candy, ya ole fahrt! Ooops, Monty Python attack!

@ max-peck: I'm past the 74 mile circle I drew around my patrol zone, which is what my assigned "mission" was when I'd encountered those DD hunter groups. I think a fourth one just went behind me, still looking for me. Anyway, in the "stock" game, it used to be a 50 mile radius, didn't it, for 48 hours? I don't recall if they announced in stock when you were "on station"... Anyway, here in a bit, I should be crossing the line.

One of the strange things I've noticed is the "Radar Contact!" reports start at about 20nm range... then they quit at about 15nm, when the sonar reports start... those then stop and the "Radar contact!" comes back online at about 12nm, back to sonar at 10, etc. Rather strange that the radar feller seems to lose contact. I've even gone to the screen and watched it happen. A blip there one moment, gone the next. I suppose it has to do with the "profile" the radar sees / doesn't see supposedly. Anyway I'm doing Ahead Standard in the Balao, about 15knots, and this radar / sonar contact has gone twice as far as me in the same time frame, so there's no way it's a merchant... so that'd make a fourth Hunter Group in two days... a wee bit much. Unless of course, it's the Yamato!... I ain't takin' the bait though... I've got a test to perform!

btw, especially RR: watching the discussion in TMO - how historic?, I'm wondering if FotRS is maintaining a "dynamic" campaign. One thing I noticed on several patrols on new career starts in December 1041, is that when departing Pearl, I encountered the same 3 contacts on the way to Midway, on the same day, same time, same ship class... 'Course, all the missions were slightly different destinations... So some of the stuff is "set", some of it isn't. How "historic" are they with the weather, I wonder?... Same storm, same place, same time?

"The unit class TUS from country Japan not found in the Platform Library."

I'm getting this message when I try to open the ME. Could someone tell me what the Platform Library is?

Support "real" 5/51 deck gun?

Hello, I'm wondering is there any possibility to make a new "real" 5/51 deck gun for Tambor/Gar class subs? The original ones in TMO or FOTRS just a pseudo gun with the model the same as 4/50 gun.

Well max-peck... I'm not getting very far in this experiment... I've tried to do this now three times, and all three times, the game has CTD'd. The last radar contact has gone off all reports, no radar, no sonar stuff showing. I'm probably about 70nm out from the Star Binocular emblem for my patrol zone, and the computer all of a sudden can't do over 64x on TC, so I finally get it to recognize 32x. Now it goes herky jerky, so I back off to 16x, 8x, crash... I cross my fifty mile line (no game acknowledgement of that either) at 1730 January 14, 1945, and by 2130, the game crashes. Hasn't mattered which direction I've traveled yet apparently. I've gone northwest twice, southwest once. These are all the same save file, which seems to load fine, just won't play past 2130 or so.

Therefore, tomorrow I'll be doing a new career in like 1943 or something. I'm doing multiple tests at the same time. I've about filled my little notebook. I might have to graduate to high skrul and get me a full-size thingie to write in... good night.

Erm - Props?

You cannot do any testing at the moment

I have not given you the new files yet

Yeah, I'm checking the status quo for now ("down down, deeper 'n' down"),but crashing things instead... I'm reasonably certain that FotRS Ultimate beta has "continuous" for like 48 hours on everything I've encountered thus far for "patrol area". I've gotten one "travel to", or however they worded it, and once arriving near destination (about that 50nm circle), got a "patrol for 48 hrs" kind of thang... I'm trying to find the patrol I'm on now in the list of things, so I can maybe see what's impacting the performance of the computer, and then crashing it... Come to think of it, I may have activated cdrsubron7's add-in ships after the start of this patrol... hmmm.

I may ramble somewhat in this post because I'm thinking out loud.

Is the Names.cfg in the Roster Folder a master list of all the ships in FOTRSU? Some of the merchantships in the game are not on that list and they still seem to function properly. Like I've mentioned many times my knowledge of modding is next to nill. I'm starting to learn some things working with all you smart guys though.

Anyway, what I'm trying to get at is that while this ship naming project has merit in reality it's not practical. It's going to double the amount of ships ingame and there's no guarantee that the correct Japanese named ships will be used all the time. I think what I'm going to do is just name the ships listed in Names.cfg with the Japanese Maru names and make this a separate mod that will installed with the JSGME. If you want to use it and live with the occasional other nationality ships being named with a Japanese Maru than so be it.

Edit: I should mention that the Japanese Maru mod will not only have the ship name changes but also corrected tonnages for the Marus named in JSGME form.

OK, another question I like to get an answer for. There are about 3-5 merchants in FOTRSU that are not included on the Names.cfg list in the Roster folder. Should they be included with the list?

I've not had a whole lot of time to look into it cdrsubron7, and like you, I ain't that good at the modding part, 'cept for making things go up in smoke and "BOOM!"... Usually, not a desirable kind of mod. I did not find a TUS in all my searches thus far. I'm wondering what it's referring to? I haven't even begun to look at the procedure you're employing, but at first glance the other day, it seemed logical...

TUS=Big Old Liner

Your are correct, pb. The procedure does work but only by making duplicates of the existing ships. I've experienced this while fiddling around with things. You not on only get the existing ships listed in the ME you get the new ship listings, there would be problems down the road for any other single missions I create. FOTRSU in kinda of a mish mosh when it comes to the merchants anyway, I would only be adding to the confusion so to speak.

CapnScury has a lot of experience in modding this game. Maybe he could shed some light on this for me.
