Default Hard Drive Crash!

Cleaned out the hard drive, only to have it crash with a bad cluster/sector in my C:\Windows folder. After reinstalling Win98 and IE 6.0 SP1, I bought used copies of Silent Hunter Commander's Edition and Harpoon Classic 97. I'm very impressed with SHCE, compared to SH1. They are close enough alike so there is no learning curve. The extra touches are there in the extra crew speech and other areas. Harpoon Classic 97 is very similar to my old Harpoon for Windows v1.63, except for about a dozen additional options like zooming to unit level and more control over the windows. I like the texture maps too, they grow on you after a while!

I'd love to be able to run SH1 again once more. When be fun to run down the memory lane of my first subsim. I remember the lap-lap-lap sound of the water when on the surface was rather relaxing.

If you are running Windows Xtra Patient isn't there something called Microsoft Virtual PC that's supposed to allow you to run 600 different OS's? It might be better than some of the more traditional methods like Dosbox.

Meh. I just don't have the technical expertise. My computer barely runs as is.

Before it went to Davy Jone's locker, I had a basically stock setup on my soundcard. A220, I5, D1 were the old settings. Now it's A220, I2, D0, which means manually setting up software in most cases. Harpoon is the fussiest. If I can get that to work, everything else will. I noticed Win98 doesn't seem to be pulling my configuration from my main Autoexec.bat.
