/\looks like cordura 2 me; I've been searching British non-Scottish unit emblems with that material...but to no avail....

It's made of ribbon and I think that the officers' may have been satin at one time but that's of no importance here.

And - although I agreed that it's an emblem, it's an emblem of something in their history - but it's more than just an emblem since it forms a part of the uniform

Royal Welch Fusiliers( formerly The 23rdRegiment of Foot)?

The wearing of the queue was abolished by 1808, yet the Royal Welch Fusiliers ignored the order to remove the five black ribbons from the collar of their coats. As they were stationed in Nova Scotia at the time, there was little notice taken of their disobedience, but on returning to England in 1834, an inspecting General ordered the ribbons removed, and an appeal was made by the regiment to King William IV. In the same year the Royal Welch Fusiliers were granted the right to wear "The Flash" as a regimental distinction and have worn it ever since.

This is an inexpertly trimmed photo of my dad during WW2 - you can just see the edge of the Flash

(PS: you were lucky to get there by looking for an English regiment - the RWF were a Welsh regiment!)

I'm just living up to billing in the Rhode's red coat thread...and Wiki doesn't differentiate as much 'twixt Brit and Welsh uniforms as it does Scots; which is where i spent most of my search till U said "black ribbon". When you answered "family member" I knew the pic you referred to; but the edge-view of the flash would have gone by me perception wise anyway....

I'll have have something suitably insidious shortly.

"Lechyd da!" - cheers! I don't mind 'Wiki' not knowing the difference between a Welshman and an Englishman but a Royal Welch Fusilier certainly would (note for others that this spelling is the archaic one for 'Welsh' that was retained for some reason). I still think you were lucky that they don't

I was on a path to some circular black cloth 'emblem', so Google withheld this from me

re Welshman there is one in the vicinity, he is quite convinced to be british but not english, just had a conversation. He was in the military before moving to Germany in 2020, should have asked HIM! lol

I've posted this stunning remarkable foto numerous times incl. my

album; suggesting all modders could now have a clear concept of what a burning Liberty Ship should actually look like.

The USS Pampanito, also a WWII veteran, is also moored astern for a great day at Fisherman's Wharf. I visit them at every opportunity. I figured this would be an easy one. Over to Jimbuna!
