Ah yeshhh... good times, good times...

What a lot of folks miss about The Who is the phenomenal talent of John Entwistle on bass guitar, and the way he'd "hook-up" with Keith Moon to literally "drive" a song. Pete who?

A slightly more controlled "famous" drummer:

Like a band I was in years ago, you can never keep drummers. Just look at Spinal Tap...

I don't know about everybody else, but I'm getting 2 commercials before that Zep vid... not cool, man...

kinda depends upon what "old" is to you, and what "Rockers" is to you... - The Who that Jimbuna has been posting quite a bit of came out with Quadrophenia in what?? 1970 maybe? Double album about the Modders and the Rockers... which is alluded to above in one of vienna's vidz of The Who before they were The Who. As for me, I grew up in the USA MidWest, and got all sorts of cool influences, Nashville, Memphis, MoTown, Philadelphia, etc. etc. etc. in the early 60's, which the Beatles then blew-up... but they were cool too! But I never wanted to actually play a musical instrument, until this came along:

and I ~had~ to learn to play the guitar... One thing about the song you linked to there eisenwurst is that the guitar sounds like it's tuned down a step or so, like Fogerty does with his Black Les Paul in Creedence. Whenever you see him with that guitar, and he plays an E chord, he's actually playing a D chord... - All music is good, even Eichhörnchen music, which my mom did classical piano, but her and dad were also big time into swing music... But it's gotta have a melody, along with a beat for me to think it's music, even if it's got that twang:

Of course, then there's Little Richard, Bill Haley and the Comets, Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens, etc. etc. etc. which are what I call "old rockers"... Elvis is almost a young pup compared to some of them.

I always thought this song had something to do with the B-52 bombers dropping bombs like rain in Vietnam, but here's another reason for the song:

From a comment person on youtube ...
Quote:
does anyone know what this song was really about? yes, believe it or not, it was really about rain. the soldiers talked about how it rained constantly even on days when there wasn't a single cloud in the sky! heck, they even give you a "hint" about it on Forest Gump!

[QUOTE=propbeanie;2514683]kinda depends upon what "old" is to you, and what "Rockers" is to you...

In Australia "Tribalism" is very big, and has been for generations. Cars - Holdens vs Falcons, Politics - Labor vs Liberals , just 2 examples I can think of at the moment.

I grew up in the working class town of Wallsend NSW . People worked either at the Steelworks or the coalmines. This was late 50s early 60s.

The music on the wireless ( no transistors yet ) was mainly Bigband stuff.

Then "RockaBilly" came along and got a big following ( Rockers ).

Then about mid 60s the whole "English/British music scene" really took off and to be a "Mod" was very fashionable.

This is just my "take" on things. How I remember it.

The Mods and Rockers were always on the news both in England and here in Australia.

Power Trio:

Now, here in the U. S. of A. eisenwurst, these are some examples of "Rockabilly":

There's a "hitch" in the video, and the song was already four years old...

which, that video is from when I was a kid, just getting into music, with that fellow in the black leather being quite popular. He also did the song above...

Then there was this dude... I never did get that guitar part down. Tough stuff... - 'course, they did much more than just Rockabilly...

So, Carl Perkins, Scotty Moore, and Bill Kirchen... who cares who sings, right?...

But I was born just after Rock & Roll began, and grew up in the 60's, just in time for the Beatles to open the invasion, and played guitar in the 70's...
