Default DC Ships: Day vs Night Rendering

Has anyone noticed that the non-player controlled ships are rendered as all black if the scenario starts at night, and that they are rendered as all black even if the scenario continues into daylight? In addition, if the scenario starts in daylight, the non-player ships are rendered as "full color", even if the scenario continues into the night?

I noticed this while putting together a Surigao Straight scenario (what a fair fight...). If the scenario start time was between 0000 and 0429, the non-player ships are rendered as all black. Any other start time and they are rendered full color.

Does anyone know how to ensure the ships are rendered full color all of the time?

Sometimes it even happens during the day IIRC. Seems there's a bit of a glitch with the textures sometimes.

I think it's a video card glitch that happens under certain conditions; I've seen them all black in broad daylight too, both player and AI ships.
