We at Tides are working on a special TT forum, which will be 100% dedicated to TT's efforts to ERT, and he sure has done a lot.

Without him ERT would be very hard to mod, so we all owe him a big THANKS !

This is my first mod attempting to make the USA Destroyer look like a shark, with teeth on the bow, dorsal fins on the smokestacks, and a real digital picture of a shark eye with a glint of light actually reflected in it. The 5inch turrets have a custom camo scheme I designed also.. (even though it resembles some of the files found in the game). The top end of the DD for the most part was done in lighter colors to blend in with the sky at far distances. Finally, my squad logo, Triton's Mermaid, was placed on the flag and both sides of the bridge.

Here are some links to larger versions of the mod results.

This process took me one day just to get organized with all the tools that I would need, and sort through the files. Then another day tweaking and painting the texture files.

There are only a few files that need to be modified, even though the Enigma game still has tons of old files all the way back through various versions of the game reaching some of the earliest beta releases. These tons of extra files are what took me some time to decide what goes where. So in order to save you some of that time, here is a list of files I ended up needing.

There are two main game files:
textures.ezv
skins.ezv

In the textures.ezv file you will need these:
camo\shp_usa_dd_01.dds for the main part of the ship hull, bridge, smokestacks
camo\wep_usa_dd_01.dds for the torpedos

In the skins.ezv file you will need these:
skins\ships\usa_01_flag.dds for the flag
skins\weapons\wep_usa_dd_01.dds for the 5 inch turrets

Notice the two files under seperate folders that have the same name marked in RED. Do not be confused, since the complete pathnames are different, and these are two different weapons on the ship. (One of them should have been named torpedo, and the other 5inch, but thats then, and this is now).

One hint I can offer is to paint the DD texture file in rainbow colored strilpes and apply it in order to go back in and see where the stripes correspond on the various parts of the DD model.

Alternatively, as long as these pictures stay hosted, you can compare the final result of my ship with this texture file to give you some idea of how the textures will eventually be wrapped, and warped, distorted to fit the model. Some patience is going to be needed to undertake repainting any 3D model if you need decals to end up exactly where you want them.
