Default Expanding my horizons

I've been continuously looking to expand on my simulator experience when it comes to sub/naval based games and have just recently come across this game, I'd be interested to hear from those who are heavily invested or play this game quite abit think.

Would this be something worth the investment? How does the game play, any recommendations as to good content creators to watch who play it?

Thanks in advance.

It's not a high-fidelity sim like how Falcon 4 is a detailed sim for the F-16. However it's not an arcade game either. Having said that it's a great game and I come back to it time and again. To me it's like the Silent Hunter series but set in the modern era.

It's what's often referred to as "sim-cade". It's a mixture of simulation (like the Sonalyst games) and an action game, which, is very much like its spiritual successor, MicroProse's Red Storm Rising game "back in the days".

You have to base your decisions on pretty much the same things a real submarine captain have to work with. You don't need to do your own sonar, or TMA, or such, except classify the contacts, and determine when to attack, when to run, and so on.

DotMod added a lot of content, including separate towed arrays (and towed array damage), as well as playable surface vessels (really a hack of sorts) and is still actively supported.
