AMD prepares dual-core 45nm surprise

Just found this while searching for 65nm Kuma reviews. All I can say is WOW!!! Of course this is a move to sell the Quad Core Phenom IIs that have had two cores damaged (It happens when one mass produces things that small) in assembly. The cores apparently are laser cut to prevent accidental activation and the controller reprogrammed to report as a dual core. This is good news for those looking for power on the cheap. These ought to sell for under 100 USD and will EASILY beat the Intel Duals with that much ability. The talk on other forums also says there will be an even cheaper version with no L3 which sounds perfect for an underclocked to passive cooling Home theater PC. |
