Now of course this is where MS needs to focus on improving performance instead of letting themselves fall into the trap of bloatware. But to say the improvement is minor is crap in my view.

Well keep mentioning it then! A new build (Supposedly far more public than MSDN Build 7000) Is due next month and that will tell the first signs.

If your applications are not 64bit, your not going to see any huge advantage other then memory size.

Good news folks! 64 bit version has "Appeared"

http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/07/w...or-steve-ball/

It is more than obvious it is a viral campaign. but again it is copyrighted so I ain't going for it. I will wait for the public beta.

Just about everyone has decided that is the case.

MS is getting some AWESOME coverage over build 7000 so any idiot over there would have figured out how to do the ole "Whopps I uploaded it to pirate bay instead of HQ, oh well" PR thing by now.

It has built massive expectations for the public build. MS is going for the big one here and wants to stop Linux's advance.

I like how serious they are being.

They put the public beta build up for supposedly only 2.5 million first come first serve..

BAD BAD BAD BAD IDEA!!

Within moments the servers crashed! People were stampeding to get connected and going.

I expect it will be 1-2 MONTHS before I will be able to get it.

Don't bother. MS pulled it all down for now from what I am hearing.

It will be unstable for ATLEAST a week and more likely a month.

Vista (longhorn) taxed the servers but nothing NOTHING like this.

The reason is even with it's limited time (Aug 09). Windows 7 build 7000 is a way out! A way out of the nightmare many people have experienced with Vista. Go look at youtube to see the videos showing base installs of Windows 7 blowing away highly refined installs of vista (That is after they have spent hours disabling much of Vista's crap)

Hi

I have the Windows 7 beta 64bit installed now, visiting subsim in explorer 8. Managed to get one of the beta keys after some refresh mania . It installs without a hitch and it is certainly faster than my Xp pro 64bit installation by the looks of it. I never bothered with Vista, so there is a lot to explore at the moment. I thought it would be a good idea to get used to the new OS before its release.

cheers Porphy

Windows 7 64 bit runs beautifully installed and running in under 25 minutes, faster even than XP Pro that I had on.
