Default UBI pulling access to SH5 DLC and decommissioning the game

https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/help/g...us=noLoginData

You will be unable to link Ubisoft accounts in-game or use online features.

Additionally, the installation and access to DLC will be unavailable.

I wonder if it will still be playable after that, especially if a reinstall, or an install on a new computer is required.

Well, at least Steam version currently works off-line so non-functioning Ubisoft server shouldn't be a problem for existing installations. I recall having to create Ubisoft account with first installation of the game though so it might be a problem for new players (unless Steam/Ubi does something so that Ubisoft account is no longer required - I mean, the game is still being sold by Steam, it would be a bad PR for Steam to sell people a game they can't install).

As for DLC's, are there any DLC's for this game even? I thought Ubisoft just patched it to 1.2 and then fled the scene.

Well steam is nothing but a storefront. If UBI make changes to the license, then it applies to all fronts. The DLC will be negated on steam’s end. Everything sold on steam requires agreement to a 3rd party license or DRM
In one form or another and needs the platform installed to play it.
What will happen is that you will launch steam -as you do to update other games and play blah, blah. Then you will see a “required update” for SH5 - you used to many years ago, not allow a game to be updated on steam, but that right was withdrawn years ago. Now it’s obligatory to all games even offline. If there’s a forced update you have to install it to play the game.

There’s already a post on the steam SH5 forum and it applies to it.

Of course. Still, Ubi didn't say anything about disabling single player features so a single player game that does not require online mode to play should in theory run fine.

What DLC though? Only DLC I see mentioned in SH5 Gold Edition description is one that adds several historical U-Boats and escort ships (I can make an equivalent mod in a day, so not really worried by it).

You mean this one?

https://steamcommunity.com/app/48110...7087346263115/

Still doesn't (as of now) answer the question about ability to launch the base game in sinble player mode.

So, I remain optimistic (albeit mildly offended by Ubisoft) for now.

The part that has me concerned is "Additionally, the installation and access to DLC will be unavailable."

If it just means it cant be downloaded through ubi launcher, then no big deal for me since i have it on steam.

The game no longer requires always online, but does it need to do something with the ubisoft launcher the first time it's run after a new install?

My favorite solution for when the game acts up is to dump it and reinstall. That's also my favorite solution for when windows acts up.

Will either of those scenarios render the game useless? I may have to move to Uboat, which doesn't quite scratch the itch that this game does. Not yet anyway. Either that or try once again to get used to the very aged sh3.

Edit: Reading comprehension fail. I thought the quoted part meant dlcs wont work, and neither will installation of the game. Now looking at it, it says installation of dlc wont work, and neither will access to dlc. Still, i would like to know if future installations of the game will work after decommission.

While I wait for our friends at Ubisoft to respond to a help ticket i put in, I tried a little experiment. I installed SH5 from to a different computer that has never had sh5 on it. Before attempting to launch the game, I disconnected that computer from the internet.

The game will not start without Ubisoft Connect installed on the computer. The very first time ubisoft connect is opened after install, it must be online. From that time, it can be opened when offline.

After completing ubisoft connect install, i opened it while online. Then closed it. From there i installed SH5. After that, I disconnected from the internet. Next, I opened ubisoft connect in offline mode. Finally, I launched SH5. It launched.

Perhaps the game just needs to see that it has been linked to an ubi account? I would hope that if they're going to "decommission" their game, they would do away with the whole ubi connect requirement altogether. Who knows how long it'll be until somebody decides they need a New and Improved! launcher that possibly renders this game totally unusable.

I will update if I get a response from Ubi.

Looks like it's just DLC content. Base game should remain untouched.

Uhmmm....

What DLC, precisely... as far as I knew of, it was just the base aspect of SH5 (which, as we all know... was a dumpster fire up until TWoS & DasBoot SH5 mods, came on the scene.... that is. &... that's not counting all the additional mod content to round it all out, from other modders, as well. ) & that was it. No DLC's for it.

As it is NOT like... ME1, ME2, ME3 (ME = Mass Effect) or like... The Sims (take your pick on what # to add here on that 1... ) which, did include DLC content.

So... apparently Ubisoft just pulled SH5 off Steam with a note that game will "not be accessible" after September 1st:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4..._the_Atlantic/

Well, I mean I will certainly find another use for all these ship models I made for SH5 but right now I feel kinda pissed.

I thought this might be a possibility and ordered a hard copy of the game when this first started. Still not sure if even that will work because of the ubi connect requirement.

Until then, ill be looking through my steam library for any ubi titles that i havent got to playing yet. They should be eligible for refunds. It goes without saying that i'll never spend another dime on anything associated with ubisoft.

They've officially supplanted EA as the worst game company of all time. As scuzzy as EA is, i dont think they've ever made one of their already purchased titles unplayable.

ETA: It looks like there's still a two week limit for refunds, even if the game hasnt been played. I just bought a couple of their other games though, so ill get some of my money back from these crooks.

TDW once said it would be possible to remove the uplay component from the game.

We might need somebody who knows this magic now

If that’s the case then we should be fine as long as we backup our game files somewhere. But how did you prevent the game from launching uplay? I wonder if it works in offline mode, then it should also work going onwards from September.
