Sudden Continuous Slow Performance\ Help!
Hello everyone,
Recently, upon reinstalling silent hunter 4 along with TMO (then 2.2 but since i updated to 2.5), I encountered a sudden continuous slow game performance while playing the game. This issue occurred a few weeks ago so I don't exactly remember the sequence of things after whom it happened, but I do remember it didn't happen when i just started to play. I also seem to remember that it happened after i changed the game resolution from 1024*768 to 1280*768 but then again, not straight after, a short while after. Changing the graphics to minimum only changed the FPS in about 5-10. By slow performance i mean approximately 20 FPS above the surface and about 7-13 FPS underwater. The game is also very slow in the campaign interface (the office) Does anyone have a clue about what my problem might be? my system specs: Windows XP professional version 2002 service pack 3 Intel Core 2 Extreme CPU X9770 3.25GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT |

Welcome abroad yotam_u.
Are you sure that you completely uninstalled SHIV (cleaned the registry, etc.) before reinstalling it? There's a Sticky in the forum about how to do it properly. If you did not have this problem before while running the same mods, obviously something is amiss. Why did you have to reinstall SHIV anyway? Did you have to reformat or reinstall Windows too? Were you having some type of computer problems?

I uninstalled the game a while back when I lost interest in it and I wanted to free up some space on my computer. Since then I didn't reinstall or reformatted Windows, and I don't recall having any major problems in my computer except that lately (after this issue) it can't wake from sleep mode for some reason .
As for the first uninstallation, I did it through the control panel and I'm not sure whether it's a complete uninstallation or not. Should I uninstall and reinstall the game again? if yes, what is a complete uninstalliation? |

this is going to sound obvious...but did you try just restarting your computer? Sometimes I get laggy games but restarting the computer fixes it

I strongly suggest that you do a thorough Virus Scan of your PC. After that, do a complete scan for adware/spyware and see if that doesn't improve things a bit.

Good. Now, use a separate Ad-ware/Spyware scanner and do a complete scan of your system. The point is, you have to learn how to troubleshoot your PC. You said that you didn't have this problem with SHIV before, but now you do. Obviously, something changed between then and now, and, like retracing your foot-steps to find a misplaced item, you have to remember/figure-out what that difference is. Maybe, it's adware/spyware, maybe it's not. Maybe it's a change to your system settings or gameplay options. There's only so much that forum members can help you with, not knowing your PC in the manner in which you do.
It's possible that a single Virus Scan can miss something on the first try, so rescan your system a second time. This is something that even the Virus Scan companies understand. There's a reason for the slowdown and if it worked fine before, you can get it to work fine again. Only a little time and perseverence can make the difference.

Aside from your changing your resolution, what are your graphics options set at? All the check boxes that is.
