Default Introductions

New captain, but old hand.
I started with these games back with SH1, in 1996 or '97.
Never played silent hunter 2, but fell in love with #3. Played SH4, but didn't care for it so much. "Das Boot" is probably my favorite war movie of all time. I have the dvd, the OST and the original source book. I am also a self styled linguist. I learn language by osmosis, and am well familiar with German.
I recently (2 years ago) bought a copy of SH3 from ubisoft.com ('cuz I could not find it anywhere else), and have learned a great deal about the game since then, both the pros and the cons (and unfortunately, there are cons).
I came to this forum on the off chance of learning something new. Or how to improve my game, both "nuts and bolts" of computer settings, and actual play tips.
I recently completed some model kits of the Type II (U23) in 144 scale, and the Type VII (U99) in 125 scale.
Can't get enough of submarines, but if I had a choice, I would stay with the safety of my PC. I doubt I would actually get that close in real life...
