Default Never noticed this before in CAoD

Made an attack on a convoy, forced under and chased, escorts leave. I come to periscope depth and raise scope, watch the escorts, go to charts, hit ALT+P, and I can see the asdic cone from the escorts as they return to the convoy. All those careers over the years and the game still had a surprise for me.

Yeah, AOD handles situational awareness very well. Of course some of the items didn't exist in real life but they're needed to get real life results in a computer game and that is the key.
Many times, inputting "realistic" data into a game causes more problems than it solves.

Sorry to hijack this thread with my issue, but here it goes.
I was able to make run Command: Aces of the Deep on my Win10 machine by just modifying the compatibility settings in the executable. I love it.
However, I am aware of some bugs that this version comes with. Most notably the engine sound cutting in and out and such. It is very distracting.
Is there a known patch that resolves these type of issues with this version of the game?

Thank for the help in advance.

Not that I have ever heard of. The sound has always been an issue. I just played it so much over the years, I ignore it. Changing speed will bring it back.

I don't know if a patch would be possible, or I would think it would have been done by now.

Thanks Rconch. That's what I was afraid of. I just really like the sharper graphics, my eyes are not that great anymore haha.

The amount of dud torpedoes in the beginning of your career is frustrating
On my 3rd patrol, out of the 6, I had 5 duds.
This is late 1939.

I know how that feels-I start in "The Happy Time" and avoid the worst of the duds.

Curious, what level are you playing? Usually these things are shown at the lower (novice & intermediate) realism settings. You will not see these at the expert level. Same goes for torpedo tracking and other things under the "limited visibility" settings.

If you go the control room screen, look in the upper left hand corner of the screen and click on the "Game" tab. It will list 5 pull-down tabs, click on "Options"; It will give you this screen:

Check the status of each item. You can toggle these on/off. I also notice that the game sometimes faults by turning these sounds on and you need to turn them off again.

If that doesn't work, save the game and exit out of the game altogether and sometimes even restart the computer. That should reset it and then go back and resume the saved game.

This often clears many faults that you might experience while playing CAOD. Hope that helps,

Yes, very annoying!! Sometimes it just doesn't work out, and then...sometimes it does!

Loaded up Aces of the Deep on my new laptop for my Thanksgiving trip. Had an absolute blast waiting in the airport terminal and during my flight - I finally learned how to survive convoy battles in 1942 - 1944! Although it's never a sure thing.

I learned how important it is to go EXTREMELY deep, and break off on the surface right away if my officers detect radar emissions from surface ships. Radar-equipped destroyers and frigates are lethal late in the war. Corvettes with radar can be outrun if you have a Type IX or VII.

Also not to assume the escorts won't detect you if you submerge in front of a convoy. The old "submerge and wait" tactic can be dangerous from 1942 onwards (as it was in real life historically).

Basically, the less I took foolish chances the more I survived. 1939-1940 convoy attacks on the other hand were a turkey shoot - me and my wolfpack even wiped one out 100%. A terrible British naval disaster 27,000 feet over Ohio....lol.

Over Ohio.....great story ! Yes, that's the difference between AOD and SH3 in a nutshell; take foolish chances in AOD, you die. In SH3, not so much.
