Default Manual Targeting not working?

Hey guys,

im new to this forum as a registered member, but ive been reading alot already here and i wanted to thank all of you who put effort in supporting people here

i have a question about the manual targeting.
ive read the tutorials and worked my way through some online demonstration videos and it seems pretty straight forward tbh.

im first identifying the target, marking the map to get the AOB and range it afterwards, i do that twice to get a speed.

but never the less...as soon im done with this and go to the torpedo map...its pointing to nirvana always. most of the time the green line is waaaaaaaaaay to short even though the ranging IS correct (well i mean you can easiely range in the map using a ruler there) and also it doesnt look like the TDC is taking the speed into account at all`?

so any ideas what i might do wrong...i understand that there is a ton of stuff you can do wrong but i double checked alot of stuff myself and i cant figure it out. i even calculated the speed of the boat myself using map markings and it confirms that i did it right in the first place.

im running out of ideas here

thanks for help in advance!

greetings

sudden

ps: i added 2 pics, one with my input data and the second one shows what garbage is coming out the other end..

ROCKIN ROBBINS SH4 TARGET INFORMTION REQUIRMENT

When I have to find AoB I already have the information to measure it directly off the plot. I'm going to assume imperial measurements here, but if you're using metric the time is three minutes fifteen seconds and you're measuring in meters. Conversion works the same way.

Let me explain. The first piece of info I need is the target speed. So the scope goes up and I switch to the nav map. Pop up the stopwatch, mark the ship's location, start the stopwatch and down scope. At 2:40 or so, pop up the scope, lock on the target and switch to the nav map. At 3 minutes, mark the position of the target and down scope.

First, take the ruler tool and connect the marks, extending the line in the direction of the target's movement. This is the track: the course the target is on. If help is on (by opening the compass) you can use the compass rose on the ruler tool to read off the target's true course.

Then you need the speed of the target. With the compass tool click on one mark and drag to the other. You can then read the number of yards the radius of that circle is. The speed in knots is the number of hundred yards (or meters) run during the time. So if the ship sent 750 yards, the speed is 7.5 knots. 1200 yards = 12 kt. You can enter that speed in the TDC right now.

It's time to find that Angle on the Bow. Up periscope and lock on the target. Switch to the nav map and use the protractor tool (shaped like a triangle). Left-click on the track ahead of the target, then on the middle of the target and finally on the middle of your submarine. You'll see the angle measurement beside your target at the apex of the angle. That's your AoB. Now it's starboard or port, depending on whether you are looking at the starboard or port side of the target.

Simple enough? And you got an elementary course in plotting too! I encourage you to use a plot instead of the crew estimate method. You can't check the crew estimate. They can tell you any old thing and the first clue you have is when the torpedo misses.

ATTACK 1 DICK O KANE MANUAL ATACK (NO STADIMETER)
1. FIND TARGET SPEED ( 3 MINUTE RULE)
2. USE THE PENCIL TOOL TO MARK THE 2 X’S
3. USE THE COMPASS AND MEASURE THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE 2 X’S
4. SET THE SPEED DIAL ON THE TDC RIGHT BLACK BUTTON
5. SEND TO THE POSITION KEEPER BY CLICKING THE RED TRIANGLE 2 TIMES
6. FIND TARGET COURSE BY USING THE RULER AND DRAW A LINE THROUGH BOTH THE X’S THROUGH THE TARGET TO A POINT ADJACENT TO YOUR SUB
7. TAKE THE PROTRACTOR AND PUT OVER THE COURSE LINE AND DRAW A 90 DEGREE LINE OUT WHICH WILL BE THE INTERCEPT LINE
8. MARK THE FIRING POINT DISTANCE BY MEASURING WITH THE COMPASS
9. MOVE THE SUB TO THE FIRING POINT POSITION
10. THE STARBOARD LEAD ANGLE WILL BE 15 DEGREES 360 -15 = 345 DEGREE POSITION ON THE PERISCOPE
11. LOCK THE PERISCOPE ON 345 DEGREES
12. A.O.B. STARBOARD IS 90 – 15 = 75 DEGREES
13. MIDDLE BLACK BUTTON SET A.O.B.TO 75 AND SEND TO POSITION KEEPER BY CLICKING THE RED TRIANGLE 2 TIMES
14. LEFT BLACK BUTTON TO SET THE RANGE
15. SEND TO POSITION KEEPER BY PRESSING THE RED TRIANGLE 2 TIMES
16. SET ALL THE TORPEDO SPEEDS FAST
17. SET ALL THE EXPLODER TO THE RIGHT
18. OPEN THE TUBES
19. IDENTIFY THE TARGET
20. SET ALL THE TORPEDO DEPTHS 5 FEET BELOW THE DRAFT SHOWING IN THE REC MANUAL
21. RE-CHECK THE TARGETS COURSE
22. RECHECK THE A.O.B.
23. AIM THE PERISCOPE AT THE BOATS SIDE AND FIRE
STARBOARD 360 – 15 = 345 DEGREES
A.O.B. 90 – 15 = 75 DEGREES

PORT 0 + 15 = 15 DEGREES
A.O.B. 90 + 15 = 105 DEGREES

fast calculate speed ship with periscope

1. Enemy ship moving at 90ºAOB ~aprox. (side view).

2. Put vertical line of periscope on bow ship and activate stopwatch.

3. When the stern reaches the vertical line.. stop the timer.

then:

Ship length
----------- X 1,85 = Speed in Knots.
time in sec

1. example:

cimmaron class tanker= 190,6 m (length)
time bow--->stern in sec= 38 seconds.

190,6 m
-------- X 1,85 = 9,27 Knots
38 sec
