Default Sub Command now fully working in Wine under Linux

Hello all.

Sub Command is now working, with all sounds, in Wine under Linux. I have posted my test results along with instructions at WineHQ.

Please feel free to ask for help in this thread.

It is worth noting that Dangerous Waters will work using the same modifications that SC uses. The only problem with running DW in Wine at the moment is that the game crashes when trying to load a mission using the 688(I). We are still not sure why this is happening or if it will be fixed.

Hi,

Does 688i H/K work in wine as well? I remember I tried it some time ago and it would install, but would not run. Has this issue been resolved?

Also, has anyone had success in getting 688i H/K to work in VirtualBox? I have an XP VirtualBox running under Linux and whenever I try to start up the game I get a black screen. This seems strange to me as I previously had it working with QEMU/KQEMU before KQEMU was deprecated.

Great news about Sub Command. I'll dig up my CDs of this game and let you know how it goes. I am using Fedora and have wine-1.3.6-1.fc14.i686 installed.

Thanks,
Zakarpatska

zakarpatska, I can't comment on 688i H/K. You'll have to try it for yourself.

As far as VirtualBox goes, you must make sure to install the "Guest Additions" for things to run well, especially games with 3D. Boot your VM in "safe mode" by pressing F8 during the boot-up. Log in as Administrator and start the Guest Additions installer from VirtualBox's menu. Make sure to check the box for Direct 3D support. Reboot.
