Ed O'neill played the character Al Bundy on Married with Children. Ed Is famous for his hysterical dead pan delivery on his lines. Al Bundy also brags of his high school football years where he scored 4 touchdowns in a single game, Including the game winning touchdown against his nemesis, “Spare Tire” Dixon.

What most people may not know is that Ed O'Neill was a football player having gone to Youngstown State University in Ohio. Ed also had a try out with the Pittsburgh Steelers in Coach Chuck Noll's first year as the head coach. Ed was cut and never played football again. I know a cousin of Ed O'neill and he has told me some great stories of their days growing up. I think the both of them and their friends were characters.

Ed O'neill visited with Rich Eisen and tells the story of playing against legendary Dallas Cowboys Quarterback, Roger Staubach for two years when he was playing for the Naval Academy at the Pensacola Naval air station. Apparently, Ed, with Youngstown State chased Roger all day and hit Roger, illegally out of bounds, drawing a 15 yard penalty ( personal foul )

That illegal hit is something Al Bundy would do. Maybe the character he played wasn't so far off from the real Ed O'Neill.
