ACES OF THE DEEP CD
I thought this subsim was not available anymore until I came across a second hand copy (in its original case) for sale on Amazon UK, through a market trader. This is on a CD, and states it is compatable for Windows 95/98. I am wondering if it will load on Windows XP, as some of my older games for Windows 95/98 will run on XP with no problems.
Anyway, I decided to take the plunge and send for it, as it was only £7.99 plus postage. I have always wanted AOTD just to see what this subsim is like, being as it has had such good reports as being one of the best subsims ever made before SH3 came on the scene. If anyone has a similar CD, of Aces Of The Deep that runs on XP, I would be interested to know, or have I wasted my money buying it. What is it like in comparison with SH3. I notice on the download pages there are a few patches for Aces which are still available, which no doubt need to be added to improve the stock game. Any info on Aces will be appreciated.

The last edition came out long before XP. You can run it on newer OSes by using DOSBOX.

Are you talking about Aces of the Deep, or Command Aces of the Deep?
CAotD might give you some trouble running it. Check out http://www.subsim.com/tips/tipaod.php and http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=131699. |

Aces Of The Deep, not Command Aces Of The Deep. I have already downloaded Dosbox, ready for when the CD arrives. I take it Dosbox has to be added after installing Aces from the CD. Never had to load a dos game before on my XP computer. The last time I ran a Dos game was Silent Hunter 1, many years ago, when I had a Windows 95 computer, with a CD & floppy disk drive. Oh how technology has changed since then.

Aces of the Deep
Hi RustySubmarine:
Well this game when it came out was awesome i mean this sub sim was one of the best at the time, very solid game unlike any other game, very unique in its way, the interface is very simple, yet very demanding at times, inside the sub like charming, very realistic movement, the waves of the water will make you throwup, the ships look good, explosions ok, the crack sound of ships sinking great, the randome game play and patrol zone, awesome, the voices ok, the persistan of enemy ships to sink you will make you sweat, you will die if not carefull. FINAL REVIEW: GET IT, YOU WONT REGRET IT. PLAY AND YOU WILL ASK FOR MORE, AND THERE IS MORE, GET THE PATROL DISK AND YOU WILL PLAY FOR MONTHS AND YOU WONT GET TIRED OF IT. HOPE THIS LITTLE REVIEW HELPS, ANY DOUBT AKS. ENJOY IT. USE DOS BOX TO PLAY IT IF, XP DONT WORK. |
