Ruby Ridge:30 years later
Yesterday marked 30 years since the Federal government attack on Randy Weaver, a Former Green Beret, in which his wife, son, and dog were murdered by federal law enforcement officers, while his friend as injured by. One of the US Marshals who opened fire on the family was shot and killed as well.
All of this because after he was entrapped by the ATF, Weaver failed to become a informant, was arrested, and subsequently failed to appear in court on bogus charges. After the murders and a standoff, Weaver was tried and acquitted on all charges except the failure to appear. Weaver also received a 3 million dollar settlement. This was prime example of just how tyrannical government can be. Weaver passed away in May 2022. Last edited by Bubblehead1980; 08-22-22 at 03:56 PM. |

A sad story
"prime example of just how tyrannical government can be." Hmm millions of American voters had and have another view on this..they keep on voting on their preferred party(their tyrannical government). Back to the story.. The US Marshals he made this raid did they get any punishment I hope they did Markus

Nope, charges were dismissed in federal court because they were acting in an official capacity.

They...These US Marshals has significantly exceeded their powers. The good thing is the Marshal who shot his wife, kid and dog was killed himself Still the other should stand trial. Markus

IMO, mistrust of the Federal Government runs pretty high in the western states, always has. I have lived in various parts of the region my entire life and while there are some Radical Anti-Government groups around, the feelings of the majority of those who distrust the Feds are more ambivalent in nature, "If you leave us alone there won't be any issues". It's also the reason that when the Feds do "overstep" or come down heavy-handed,( Ruby ridge, Waco, Bundy, WWII internment camps, forced Indian relocations, etc.). Some of us tend to side with the "Locals" even though the "Locals" may be in the wrong "legally". |

Randy Weaver. Officer Degan was probably killed by the 12 year-old Sam Weaver...after the family dog was shot whilst being overly barky at hidden officers. Sam was shot in the back retreating from the dog shooting encounter by other officers near or attending to officer Degan. Those officers were equipped with silenced firearms'??!

Yeah I knew but I didn't want to go into the details as the result was the same. As I recall the new prosecutor believed that he couldn't win the case and that too much time had passed or something like that.

I believe he was the one who shot the kids dog. Apparently the kid shot back, hitting the Marshal then he turned to run back to the cabin and the rest of the cops shot him in the back. There's no word on whether the kid had any idea they were cops.

Horiuchi's 1st shot might be justified depending on your opinion.
The 2nd shot? I feel that was uncalled for and a rash and wild shot. In combat? Maybe one would attempt such a shot. In this situation? Totally bad judgement on his part as the target was retreating and he did not acount for any possible collateral results of a rushed shot at a moving target.
