But it is highly doubtful that the Iranian's would operate their Kilos in the Gulf. There are large portions of the Gulf where the depths don't exceed periscope depth and others where it is only as deep as the length of the submarine. Their Ghadir class submarines are intended for orientations in the Gulf (hence the submarine tunnels at IRGCN bases in the Gulf), while the Kilos are meant for operations in the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea (there is an Iranian naval base under construction/expansion near the border of Pakistan that is believed to be the new Kilo base).
This nautical map shows the Straits of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman.

The map clearly shows a "submarine training area" northeast of the shipping lanes, placing it in striking position of commercial shipping. The map doesn't show the naval base at Bandar-e Abbas, where the Kilos are currently based at. Google Maps clearly shows a Kilo docked there...along with a good portion of the Iranian Navy.

It is. Seen enough pictures of them. Iran doesn't have any other types of subs besides its collection of midget subs and the three Kilos.

Yes, she is a Kilo class.

My point is that a Kilo class, even old, is still a formidable foe.

You are going to base that assessment on a 10 year old chart?

The new IRGCN submarine base in the Gulf is located at +26° 43' 9.68", +55° 58' 21.65" (The IRIN does not base their Kilos out of here)

The new Iranian naval base under construction (for a while now ) is at Chabahar.
