Do you have the 4G patch installed?

That may be part of the issue for CTD's. You can d/l a copy here :

Good hunting,

I don't think I have it installed. So this patch will allow the game to use 4gb ram?

Some more suggestions in addition to the above. Ensure that the game is not installed in either of the Program Files folders, as those locations cause problems. Right click sh3.exe and set compatibility mode in properties for Windows XP service pack 2. Tick 'run as administrator'. These in addition to the aforementioned 4GB patch are the basics which should get the game running as it should.

Some other tips for avoiding CTDs during gameplay include avoiding using high time compression near ports, avoid scrolling on the nav map whilst using time compression, never use the automatic crew configuration buttons on the crew management screen - drag the sailors individually to the desired stations, and avoid saving the game near land and ships (sunken or otherwise) within about 50km. As you gain experience be sure to consult the included GWX manual, as it contains a lot of useful insights and information.

Good luck.

I'm not sure if we are talking about the same thing here, but I just decided to try and get back into SH3 this week.

I'm playing GWX (Grey Wolves) and I use a CRAP TON of mods. Including ARB WideGui... (see attachments)

AND.. I'm using SH3 Commander

The game started fine.

I created a campaign, get to the "office", modify my boat load-out, select a conning tower emblem, set realism, read mission brief and click "start,"

Watching the big red line move from left to right as the mission loaded.

Keeps moving to the right,, loading...... almost there,,,,, Getting excited,, GONNA PLAY SH3 !!!!

BOOM!! application error, click "ok" ,,, looking at my desktop....

Pull some more of my receding hairline out, curse at computer screen, reach for pistol (Elvis Presley thing, inside joke).

I'm running windows 10.

My solution was to go and run the game in Windows XP (Service Pack 3) compatibility mode. (see attached .JPG). It solved my issues. I can duplicate the error by turning compatibility mode off.

How do you do this? (you ask in awe)

Go to SH3 game application (or desktop shortcut), right click, a window pops up.

Select "compatibly" tab at the top,

Look for the compatibility mode section.

Click in the little box, this activates the little pull down menu.

Select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)"

Click "apply"

Try the game..

Hope this works. If it does I will bask in the adoration for which I so richly deserve.

If it doesn't.

I have no idea who you are or what you are talking about.
