I need to get myself to Texas before it's too late.

I imagine I'll lose my social security, but the way we're going I'm not sure I would ever get that anyway. I doubt they'll have dual citizenships. LOL

I'm reliably informed by a Texan friend of mind that the state has been in a right state since I visited in the year dot

Hmmm, well I think if the Feds actually were to let Texas go they'd first remove all their military personnel and hardware from the state, leaving it vulnerable to attack. With a 1200 mile border with Mexico and an even longer one with the United States i'd guess that half the population will be permanently engaged in defending them.

If the Feds don't want to let Texas go (the more likely scenario), then between the Armored division stationed at Ft Bliss, the Armored Corps stationed Fort Hood and the many other federal military bases that are located in the state you basically have a modern Shermans Army already in position to begin a new March to the Sea.

The last time it was tried back in the 1860's the rouge states involved were brought back under federal control by force, hence my reference to General Shermans March to the Sea.

Hmm did Texas joined the southern part of the civil war in an effort to gain independent from America ?

It did. Texas had only been a part of the US for 16 years before it seceded along with the other twelve Confederate states.

Joining the Union is like getting a room at the Hotel California.

I could see a scenario like that happening if those Federal forces I mentioned above weren't enough to crush the rebellion. Texas has a pretty strong national guard contingent that one could expect to side with the secessionists.

IF it happened. Think of how many Forces would be coming in BEHIND the Feds!
All coming from other states. No way I can see that not happening.
And forces working to stop Federales heading to Texas. Blowing up railways, bridges, and anything else to hinder said forces.
If anyone thinks the IED's in Afganistan were wicked? Imagine them here in the States! Not to mention the trained War Fighters still living here that have a thing against the Military. Yeah. Joe could be the "Lincoln" of our age.

Just remember that the "Federales" have a lot more military assets too. What's in Texas right now, while considerable, represents only a fraction of the military might they can bring to bear.

Worst case scenario for them is not a "Get the hell out of Afghanistan" scenario. I would expect to to be more like Xenophon's March of the Ten Thousand, if the ancient Greeks had complete Air Supremacy over the route.

Air Supremacy didn't help much in Vietnam. Didn't win Afganistan either.
And a Government move of force on Texas is gonna make 47 other States sit up and notice.
If they do that toTexas? We may be next. Not to mention not ALL in the Military are gonna just comply.
