Default RSRDC?

Maybe it's me. When I use TMO alone, I get enemy Merchants and convoys from Day-1. When I use TMO with RSRDC, I get nothing--1 merchant in 3 patrols. I'm sent to Lingayen Gulf for 3 days, which was one of the major invasion areas, and nothing. I just dodge planes. Sent to southern Formosa next, same deal. This goes on for 3 patrols.

Everything's installed outside of the Programs Files and it's RSRDC-TMO. Is this normal? Should I start at Pearl rather than the Philippines? Am I missing something? I'm just going from a full to an empty tank.

RSRD changed the shipping pattern from Allied-type-convoys to small convoys and single ships. a lot of single ships. SH4-Stock has shipping patterns that were too voluminous and capnscruvy and lurker did not like that, so they built RSRD with more true-to-life shipping patterns. this was a lot of work on their part.

the trick to sinking ships while playing TMO-RSRD is to use the map in the Research folder of RSRD to find the various routes that shipping used...and then sit and wait for them. the IJN used the same routes throughout the war however, the volume decreased as the war went on, until finally, after the Philippines were re-invaded by Dugout Doug, they pretty much followed the China coastline from SE Asia to the Japanese Home Islands.

i am playing TMO 2.5/RSRD right now so i understand your issue. if i grow tired of sinking single ships, i add my own RGG to whatever mission i will have next, and make sure that it includes more than one merchie and more than one escort.

use the map and get used to the shipping lanes. find 'em. sink 'em.

good luck!

I always played RSRD with TMO. Not sure how you can go to Lingayen Gulf and miss the major invasion force or the several others in the area. If you leave Manila and rush at flank to the Bungo you can catch the Pearl Harbor group returning. Just remember RSRD is historical and the beginning of the war is about battles and invasion forces. You can look at some maps and pretty much pick your spots. Once you lose Manila and as I recall port at Surabaya, you'll have battle groups and the large Java invasion force coming along the coast, has about 60 ships. I usually would attack the Jap large carrier TF in the Timor Strait first, then go hunt the Java invasion force. Course I remembered all the dates and where they were gonna be there. Then there's big action cranking up in the Solomon Islands early 42 with many battles where you can watch Jap and allied TF go at it and join in.

Very helpful. Until now, I just go where I'm sent, and everything seems to have either passed me by or not happened yet. Lingayen Gulf's a good example. When I'm there on Dec. 10th, the Japanese haven't arrived yet.

I see the need for RSRDC. Without it, many of the missions make no sense. I'm sent from Brisbane to Convoy College long after Manila's fallen. Most of the fuel is used just getting there and back again.

I appreciate the replies.

here is a patrol map of our last patrol, Sea of Japan, mid-1943, playing TMO 2.5/RSRD.
patrol around until you find their route and then set-a-spell.

Caught Yamato on Operation Ten Go April 7th 45 was actually a really cool experience to see the allied aircraft attacking Yamato and her escorts

Found them basically by googling her last voyages route and caught of them south of Kuyshu.
