USS Toledo (SSN-769), a Los Angeles-class submarine

Maybe this is what the USN surface fleet needs to avoid cargo/freighters contacts form crashing into them. Look outs that care with short range radar and long range radar and ECM mast for ET's to listen for electronics being used in the general area.

Enlisted men and officers that care for the crews safety should come first.

Bumper (? sorry I don't know the proper name) hanging over starboard is definetely the best protection agains unexpected tankers

BTW crash dive necessity with those all toys seems interesting

Fender is the proper term, but that's not a fender ... I don't know what it is. The line is too small ... I wouldn't even be able to guess,
but all of that other stuff has to go down below ... they don't dive in a hurry anyway, plus they have a warning light too:

Submarine identification light.
Quote:
Submarines may display, as a distinctive means of identification, an intermittent flashing amber beacon with a sequence of operation of one flash per second for three (3) seconds followed by a three (3) second off-period. The light will be located where it can best be seen, as near as practicable, all around the horizon. It shall not be located less than two (2) feet above or below the masthead lights.

Cool! The wing tips even fold so they can fit on an aircraft carrier.

We (the USN) had them too ... called MK45 wire guided with or without a nuclear warhead with a 12k range to just blow up near the target.

In 1963 the ASROC came into being:
