Hello subsim.com!
Hi guys and gals, hope you are all well! Norwegian subsimmer request permission to come aboard! I am new to posting here but have been silently observing through the periscope for a decade.
I am a huge fan of submarines and subsims, and interested in naval history and warships from the napoleonic era through the 20th century. At the same time I love both civil and combat aviation, and flightsims. My interest in subs started around 1993, when I was 7 years old, and got to watch Das Boot for the first time. I know it might not have been the best movie for a boy to watch, however, it left a huge impact on me about the terror of war and the cold isolation and bravery on both sides, and it got me interested in the history and technology of WW2. I have probably seen the movie 100 times since, as well as all other sub movies. In the mid/late 90s I got into PC gaming, and was very hyped when I got Command Aces of the Deep. However I found it to be a bit disappointing, and now I this the original DOS version is by far the better game. Later I got SSIs Silent Hunter, which I really liked. Since then my interest has expanded into modern subs and I regularely play sims like Red Storm Rising, Fast Attack, Cold Waters, Sub Command, Silent Service II and AOD. In the early 2000s I got word that there actually was a type VIIC preserved in Kiel that one could visit. Living in southern Norway, you can actually take a cruise ferry from Oslo directly to Kiel, so I went there in 2014. What an experience it was to actually be inside a WW2 uboat, and man it was a cramped mechanical hell inside.. I would like to visit a WW2 US fleet submarine if I get the chance as well. |
