To all boats: Because of the homeward-bound blockade runners "Regensburg" and "Karin" attack on unescorted independent ships is forbidden with immediate effect within a 200-mile wide strip, 100 miles either side of a line from CD 32 to AK 13. All independent ships encountered within this strip are to be reported immediately. Further areas will be closed in due course.

0401 - Qu.8353AE center - During watch change diving from FuMB Detection (no Magic Eye) in 60°true, E=9000. At A-Meter no Wabos.

0404 - Sound contact warship bearing 158°, E=8600, in Qu.8329AE bottom right, on course 285°, speed approx.13kn.

0412 - At Reception Depth.

0445 - Sound contact 0404/21 now bearing 79°, E=14000, in Qu.8329AE center left, on course 315°.

0508 - Lost sound contact 0404/21 in 77°, E=22600, in Qu.8325AE bottom right, on course 315°.

Cmdr.: I suspect that this is one of the patrol vessels patrolling the Iceland Passage from Faeroe Islands to Iceland, as reported in the Op.-Briefing. Tube VI cannot be repaired with on-board tools. We will have to continue our war patrol with one less torpedo tube.

B-Dienst Report: According to a new Radio Intelligence (X) report, SC 123 was in BC 4564 at 1100/21/3.
The Russian BI-3 rocket-powered prototype aircraft took its third flight at Sverdlovsk (modern day Yekaterinburg), Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia.
To all boats: U 332 urgently requested aircraft assistance in BF 81. She was attacked there, presumably by English aircraft. 4 Ju 88's were sent out, 2 of which were shot down by Beaufighters.
As the blockade-runner "Doggerbank" is taking avoiding action, attack is forbidden with immediate effect, on independent ships in CF 30, 60, 90 and in large square CG.
During the first three weeks of March, Uboats have sunk 97 ships for 500,00ts, much more than the enemy can build during this time frame.

Directly after surfacing, a twin-engine A/C is right on top of the boat and drops two Wabos that fall wide to Port - no damages. Afterwards, the A/C flies off on course South. Boat remains surfaced.

Cmdr.: Seems that the A/C was just surprised to see us, as we were to see it.

1301 - Charging batteries as before.

1346 - Qu.8777AE center - Diving for FuMB Detection (no Magic Eye) in 208°true, E=14600.

1353 - At A-Meter no Wabos and no Sound Contact.

1403 - A-20.

1407 - Reception Depth.

1411 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 25min. and 1.2nm.

1416 - Charging batteries as before.

1426 - Qu.8777AE bottom left - FuMB Detection (Magic Eye) in 152°true., E=15400 and shortly after a twin-engine A/C is sighted. At the same time the boat is approached by a twin-engine A/C from 20°true, E=3600. Increasing speed to A.K. The boat is now attacked by two twin-engine A/C with machine gun fire but no Wabos - no damages.

1429 - ALARM! At A-Meter, Wabos at 1434 and at 1435 - no damages.

1450 - Submerged cruise at A-20.

1615 - Reception Depth.

1619 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 1h 50min. and 5.4nm.
Weather and Sea unchanged in 44h.

1620 - Boat ventilated and Compressed Air Supply filled.

1630 - Charging batteries as before (85%).

1649 - Qu.3313AL top right - FuMB-Detection (no Magic Eye) in 70°true, E=17000 - is in the area of the last attack at 1426. Boat remains surfaced. Charging interrupted.

1700 - Continuing charging as before.

1830 - Batteries charged (1h 50min. for 15%). 1/3-Ahead.

1853 - ALARM! for Sunderland in 14°true, E=7100, on course 190° (no FuMB Detection, also no Magic Eye).

1854 - At A-10 no Wabos and no Sound Contact.

1908 - At A-20, sound contact with warship bearing 284°, E=26000, very fast on course NW.

1918 - By now, three warships can be heard. S-Tiefe. Nothing can be seen with the A-Periscope.

1921 - Reception Depth. Now four warships are heard. Per sound contact are located in Qu.3239AL center right, on course 300°, speed 15kn.

1950 - Number of warships increases to five and at 1950 to six.

2003 - Sundown. By now seven warships are heard, are on search patterns in Qu.3235AL.

Cmdr.: I suspect a U-Hunter Group working together with the Sunderland sighted at 1853.

2052 - S-Tiefe. Lost sound contact to U-Hunter Group.

2055 - Surfaced after 2h 02min. and 6.1nm.
Weather and Sea unchanged in 2 days.

2100 - Boat ventilated (CO₂ was 1.3%); Compressed Air supply filled (was 260Atü). Charging batteries as before (95%).

2130 - Batteries charged (30min. for 5%).

2227 - FuMB Detecion (no Magic Eye) in 316°true, E=8300. Twin Engine A/C on course 137°. Increasing speed to A.K. Spotlights, Machine Gun fire, two Wabos that fall wide to Port.

2228 - After the flyover ALARM! E=3500. At T=20 several well placed Wabos. Water entry in the aft torpedo compartment, which is quickly stopped. Tube VI is now completely unoperational. Pressure hull has taken 3% damage, is now 5%; Safe Diving Depth is now 218.5m. Several wounded crew members in the aft torpedo compartment.

2238 - At A-Meter no further Wabos and no Sound contact.

2255 - Submerged cruise at A-20.

2322 - All men are back on station. One MechMt.(T) (BtsMt.Lutz A. Fischer) is listed as "Shaken".

2327 - Reception Depth.
