Default Captain Cook's Endeavour finally found

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ed-States.html

Quote:
The Endeavour is one of the most famous ships in naval history and was used by Captain James Cook to discover the East Coast of Australia in 1770
This was very interesting, have read stories as kid about this ship and its crew and not to forget movies and documentaries about this legendary ship

That's fascinating; the replica visited our port town of Boston some years back, so we got to see the 'real thing', almost

Tell those Americans we want her back or we'll occupy their lands again

I don't imagine there's a lot left; after Cook's long voyage, she was already in rough shape and thoroughly 'expendable' as the Lord Sandwich. That made her suitable as a sunk block-ship in the harbor's mouth...a position I was recently familiar with myself!

If you wanted her back you shouldn't have sunk it to try and block our harbor. All your ships are belong to us now!

By the way if the depicted location is accurate (probably not I think to keep thieves from plundering the wreck) then the Admiralty missed the choke point to the bay by 10-20 miles. A far more likely location is under the p or o in the word Newport on that map.

That's right where we ran the anti-ship chain in 1942 to keep Catfish's ancestors from invading (mine too ).

When I read the article Wasa came into my mind.

When they found her she was not in a god shape-today she as on surface and are a museum

Maybe we will see the same with Endeavour in a couple of years from now Raised from the seafloor, some conservation or maybe a lot of it to prevent it from start to rotten(or what the correct word is) and then open a museum around the ship.

There was a report on a UK news channel last night and the broadcaster directed the camera a couple of hundred yards from the shore where they reckon she is actually lying.

Were there lots of yachts anchored in the foreground? If so it's probably located across the neck of Newport Harbor which runs from the southern tip of Goat Island to Fort Adams. The water is shallow there, enough to be able to use sunken ships as a blockade. Across the east channel of Narragansett bay, as well as out in the sound where that circle is drawn the water is over 150 feet deep. It'd take a lot of ship hulls to fill that void.

Can't recall seeing any yachts but there was a long arched bridge or jetty further on in the background.
