Default Nuclear submarine on fire at Russian shipyard

A fire has broken out at a Russian nuclear submarine during repair work at a shipyard in Severodvinsk. The cause of the fire is believed to be related to welding work on the sub.

Slavs and welding.

Not that we do not care what flammable materials lie around our welding space, we actually pad the area with newspaper and pour some gasoline over it so that the wind doesn't blow it away.

At least it was an accident. Our last sub fire was because one of the ship yard workers wanted to get out of work early.

Well it is sort of like a chemical reaction involving controlled leaking, and it can be alarming...

anybody else like the fact that is was an Oscar II and in the article they show a Delta IV. Well this is going to be another setback in Russia's naval upgrade program. I wonder what caused it this time.

Whilst in dock at the Zvezdochka shipyard on 7 April 2015, it was reported that a fire broke out "in the ninth section of the sub close to the stern".

The fire was caused by insulation materials catching fire during welding. It was reported the submarine did not have nuclear weapons or fuel onboard at the time

Guess they have learned our secret of having a fire watch standing by whilst someone is welding.

6 left in service if they get this one repaired 3 of which are undergoing refits, they are very expensive platforms and doubtful they will be replaced.
