Default Mod Help

I have recently purchased a new laptop. Windows 8, same as last one an have gone through and got both SH3 and SH4 running. I am having an issue with getting my mods to work now. I have put JSGME in the SH4 folder and have my MODS folder set up with my mod mix. I have tried enabling the mods through JSGME, but SH4 won't boot up and I get an error message stating something along the lines of some files missing.

I can't remember if I had the issue with my last computer since I set that up 5 years ago...

Any insight to a solution would be appreciated.

You have any screen shoots of your folders?

Will try to get some and upload

Edit: Here are the pics of my SH4 folder and the MODS folder. I get a CTD each time I try to start the game after it goes through the stock startup sequence...

It looks like you have sh4 installed in the "program files" directory. For some reason, mods won't work if sh4 is there. Uninstall, then reinstall under it's own directory.

What version of SH4 are you running, and what mods are you using?

I seem to recall trying to run mods for version 1.5 will run into issues with missing files. (Or maybe it was mods for 1.4 with version 1.5.) Can you tell us what the error is exactly?

Well since attempting to reinstall the above listed mods, the error message has gone away and all I get is the typical CTD "Silent Hunter 4 encountered an error and needs to close".

I have the game updated to version 1.5 and as far as I know, on my last computer, I had it in the program files section and I didn't have too many issues.

Will try to reinstall in its own directory.

If y'all can't read the mod list, it is as follows:
TMO 2.5, RSRD, ISP2.6

Oh, and this is the steam version. Have run it for the past 4-5 years with no issues (I guess I'm lucky from what I hear).

If it's the Steam version you probably will not be able to run it outside of the Steam Folder installation

If you installed Steam into Program Files, that can be an issue. If you did that, Uninstall Steam (I know that sucks), and reinstall it and choose to install Steam in its own directory C:\Steam works just fine.

Then redownload your Steam stuff... Silent Hunter, etc

99% of the game issues of Steam users is due to allowing Steam to install itself in Program Files. All the following game installs then suffer from this Microsoft Program Files stupidity and not Steam itself.

Under Steam you have full choice where you install games. I have different Steam games in 3 directories on two different drives. Steam itself is running from my program files or program files {x86) directory.

That's a new one for me... I'll have to look into that option... I've never seen where you can change the installation folder for Steam downloaded games, so I just assumed that part of the Steam DRM was to force installation into the Steam folder. Time for an old dog to learn another new trick. Heh, Heh

edit> Ah ha, like the old bloodhound I resemble, once give a scent and clue that such was possible, bingo... found it under Steam settings. Wouldn't have thought to look for it if it hadn't been for a pesky little Rockin Robbins. Thanks much. Got some reorganizing to do the next time I rework my Steam installation. I really dislike everything being buried so deep within the default Steam Folder installation.

Well, I put SH4 in a different directory and still can't get the mods to work. I put the game in a separate file under the C drive, set up JSGME, and installed TMO, RSRD, and ISP with it. Game boots and runs, but doesn't recognize that the mods are even installed now. No error messages or CTDs anymore, they just don't get read for some reason. Will post pics soon.

Edit: Here are pics.

Describe exactly what you did when you say you "installed TMO, RSRD, and ISP"

It sounds as if you overlooked something at that point.

I placed the mods in the MODS folder that was created by JSGME. I used JSGME to enable the mods. After some file diving, I found that TMO was missing the data folder, which would explain why it was not booting properly.

I'm going back through file folders to make sure I didn't make the same mistake three times.

Got everything working! For some reason when I used 7zip to extract files, I didn't get all of them extracted to the proper folders. At least, that's what I think I did...
