Nice one, however for me the more arcadey games like this are not a patch on the arcadey sims we had when we were kids on the c64 etc. for all the power of iPads etc all too often these games will model a single part of the experience eg you are the tailgunner in a B17, you are manning the aa gun of the. Arizona at Pearl etc. whereas the arcadey sim games we had as kids went much further and had you doing a multitude of tasks eg Dambusters where you manned all the gun +managed the engines, flew the plane and dropped the bouncing bomb, Epyx Destroyer where you manned the bridge, the 5” guns, the AA guns, the damage control, the sonar, the radar, the depth charge station etc although it was undoubtedly an arcade game it kept you very busy and offered a certain suspension of disbelief.

Other games in this category would be a lot of the Accolade games like The Train: Escape to Normandy, Power At Sea, Ace of Aces, Gunboat and from 360 Pacific games like Das Boot. Whilst these were definitely more arcadey in nature than the more hardcore sims of Microprose / Spectrum Holobyte/ Janes etc they were still fun and it would be great if mobile indie devs could put a bit more effort into their creations and do something similar they would be ideal for fllling in the daily hour commute etc.

The closest I would say we have today is Scott Goffman’s (Panic Ensues)excellent Crash Dive 2 it’s shows what a truly committed indie dev can do and Scott has been fine tuning and enhancing the game with a huge number of bug fixes and tweaks since it’s launch, another couple worthy of a look would be Torpedo Run & Enemy waters which actually has a sub vs destroyer multiplayer capability albeit in a very arcade way.
