Default Map update mod request

Hello all. I was wondering if there was a mod for SHIV or SHIII that will assist in map updates but not completely give it away like in the normal game. I don't mind taking the ranges and bearings but i find the map tool cumbersome. Is it possible to mod the game to have a map update that would automatically log contact points without seeing the ship moving in real time (like in the normal game). I was thinking the accuracy of the positions as well as the frequency of the map contact updates would be based on the rank and experience of the navigator or XO. Is this possible? Or should i just man up and do the map contact updates myself? Thanks!

Don't take this as the last word, but I am fairly sure that this would require tinkering with things that are hard coded. Otherwise, this would have already been done. Certainly a good idea though.

This greatly annoyed me when I first started playing. For some reason, the devs considered it ok to give you the choice between having way too much information and none at all. At least it is possible to plot on the in-game charts. When I played SHCE, I ended up doing it on paper.
