Default Well the devs changed things so I could run the game

So after a week of attempts I emailed support and they actually took steps to get me running. Boy am I sad they did that. Half of the interface was disabled...for example I couldn't set the depth of my torpedoes. And my first mission probably would have been great if it weren't for the fact that I had to intercept a convoy that was guarded. And I knew the port they were headed to. But the game lacked one small detail.....the map had only my port on it. Where they hell were they going?? Only the developers know because the maps sure couldn't show me.

Navigation? fugetabout it.
Mapping tools? fugetabout it.
Planning for my torpedo attack?

What a half-baked pile of doggy doodoo. So I told the tech that helped me that sadly they succeeded in letting me run the game.

Of course it's half-baked. The whole point of beta testing is to help them work out these bugs. They need your reports so they can fix these things. It's not a finished game that you can play and then complain about. It's a test environment so the finished game doesn't have problems like this.

Talk to them.

you can set torp speed/depth. Is it missing from your instal or you just don't know how?

Isnt that the whole point of a sub game.

The strat map shows all the friendly and enemy ports. Sounds like problem with your instal.

there are mapping tools available on the Tac map. Again is your instal missing them or you just don't know how to use them?

It sounds like a problem on your end. The Navigation and mapping tools are there. They are finicky to the point of annoyance, but they technically "work".

The game also forces you to start in the tutorial and, like Silent Hunter 5, the interface is disabled until the tutorial is ready to tell you about it.

There is no warning about this and it has confused countless players. Likewise, the tutorial sucks, anyway.

As far as missing features...wait until you try crash diving.

I already have, Steve. Those folks don't listen. They are also politely arrogant about it, too. Seeadler has been going round and round with them too and they have pretty much called him a liar, even after he provided videos of crash diving working in the German beta, but not working in the English beta.

How very interesting. One would think that after all the problems with SH5 this team would be more receptive to the testers. I guess that's what I get for thinkin'.

Okay to answer the various questions asked:

First there is no install so it is only what they do inside Flash.
Second I should have said this but the tools are there. When I click on the ruler, for example, then try to draw a line, all I do is move the map.
Same with all of the other tools.

When I go back to the screen that shows my missions and where I am at, the screen is not populated with any port but mine. I've zoomed out quite a bit and the port destination for the convoy is not shown.

And the point of mentioning the first mission was not to say this shouldn't be the first mission. It is to say that they are escorted, with destroyers, but no indication as to what direction they are going in. So I could come into them from the side (prefered) or from the rear (playing the end-around game) or worse from the front with destroyers right on top of me. All of this, again, because I cannot see any ports but my own.

Now maybe it is that my first mission and my interface is still "in tutorial mode" and since I've not had a tutorial about using the tools I cannot use them. And since I've not been given a tutorial about setting the torpedo depth then the button just sits there and does nothing.

And since it is in beta I am taking the time to report about the numerous times the tutorial screen suddenly jumps up when I'm in the middle of trying to accomplish a task. Not once but numerous times and sometimes just one mouse movement makes it jump back up again. And I'll report it because it IS beta. Though if things do not open up more in the UI then I'd say that this is actually an Alpha. But the first impressions of the game are not good.

The first time you have started the game, your browser downloads all the data to your PC and stores it in his browser cache locally on your harddrive.
The game had problems in the past so to update this data from time to time and then it came to missing graphics elements. One solution was to clear this cache and load everything again at next game start.

It depends on your browser how to clear the cache. Alternatively you can go into the System Control Panel of Windows and start the program "Flash Player 32-bit" and then under Advanced tab clear the Flash data cache for all browsers on the PC.
