Well -- we will see what happens when BdU reassigns you to the Med. Gibraltar ought to be a depth charge magnet!

face palm at crappy sh4 torpedo wake, but thumbs up at actually seeing a torpedo running close to the surface.

You know, guys, people can argue against eye candy all they want...this is great. I remember thinking with the first Silent Hunter, man, if only they could get the graphics up to the level of a cutscene...I'd say they've made some decent progress since 1996

I don't get it either. Graphics can really make a game. They DID arguably make SHIII (and IV) - they drew a crowd and got people's imaginations' going. More importantly, they got modders' imaginations going ("what if we could have these graphics, but with more realism/features"), and that ensured not only a fun game out of the box but real longevity for the series as a sim.

I think this one's got real legs and the looks don't hurt her any.

I can't wait to pick this game up and I agree that the graphics are absolutely gorgeous and with modders helping it along...this is going to be a great platform for future subsimming.
I sure do miss the dials and compass though.
How likely is it (having played it you have a better idea than I) that modders will be able to create a UI that will incorporate the more traditional SH features?
I mean, there's gotta be a way to input a heading besides the map or the "heading to view" option, right? It'd be crazy not to!

Lots of dynamic traffic, even on the Kiel Canal! Some of it is really bad at navigation, though

Thanks for all these screenies. They're easing the pain of having to wait.

Continuing my first "real" patrol...

Example of said occasional bad navigation in the canal:

After all the goodies of the week-end, we know that this is a big improvements and that many features asked by the players are there.
Walking on the deck, an interior, living ships in harbor or as we could see on the Kiel canal.
The Devteam already said that many historical events would be there thus yes i will eagerly waiting the game. Another Step after amongst other since 1987 Microprose's Silent Service. Like Neal, at the time i would have like all what is now in SH5.
I like the effect when climbing on the bridge, you don't have the fresh air in your face but to see the day's light seems to be immersive after playing hours underwater.

Those shots of the ship running itself aground are the first shots I've seen with the "shore break" that I remember hearing about way back. Maybe even as far back as the subsim meet with ubi.
Really looks great...er, except for your ally that ran himself aground. Must be Oktoberfest
