After 4 years game time and around 2 years real time
I found her
The beast unescorted, doing 29 knots

There was no room for error, visibility was low, so I went up close and personal

The Titanic of ww2

Finished the 1st Baltic mission, and the way to Kiel and a convoy is sighted.
Of course I'm excited.. but wary that it surely cannot be an allied convoy, or has one slipped through into the Baltic.

After a perfect line-up... Oh well at least that was good practise for the crew..

Recognition is made..

Surface to give them a fright and wave..

Away they go into the moonlight.

Hanging out off Fraserburgh area (20-30km).

Night time, chase two contacts only to be small ships.
Do not engage these two as I'll expose myself.. just as I'm disengaging the sound guy gives me a long range contact... surface and we're gone west again.

End up in a perfect position.. had to stop the sub and just sit there.
I played with filters here as the pics were blacker than black.
The filter effects are interesting..

City of Flint goes down in 10 minutes. 19000 tons
First hit..

Second hit..

Down she goes.. I left that other small ship (smoke in the distance) alone and beamed out the area asap

Adding to the above..
I've had this Patroclus Armed Merchant Cruiser buzzing up and down for a few days now.

I've generally ignored it as the sound man reports a warship, to a merchant audio... how would he know it's a warship..

So I decided to remove it out of my patrol area. It took 2x circuits for me to get right up to it.
One thing you never do in war.. is repetition.. makes you predictable.

A 14 minute video on the last few moments.
(when utube finishes processing the video)

I'm really into the biggies lately..
2x Petroclus's down in as many days.. beamed out a 100Nm at 45 to get out the area, and this one I idly watched go by..

"Somebody Stop Meeeeee"
These things are just getting in my way...

Patroclus nummer 3..
Two torps and it crash dived.. come to think of it , so did the previous one, with one torp.
The sweet spot is just in front of the bridge.. and it goes down like a Stuka.

I'm going bananas here.. contacts everywhere.
It's driving me nuts..
So after zooming away from the coast for a respite.. we have a contact..

With a warship in the area we go deep and cruise.. only to find another group..
This whole patrol I've been guessing target speed if I cannot do a trig speed comparison.. and got this one more wronger than the rest.. luckily hit the engine room.

72K and two deck torps left...to reload somehwere quiet..

Sink a ship just west of Scapa Flow, then 5 hours to beam at 270 before sunrise.

Park off against an island NW of Scotland (I don't think it's Rockall - will check), but convoys do pass here.. so I decided to wait.

A ship and a small convoy is detected... listening to the small convoy gives me very high revs, indicating a few small escorts with a single cargo.
I'm going to ignore this as I don't want to give my position away for a larger convoy.. maybe.
I just like hanging around in odd places - still on my way to patrol area/ no radio contact with BDU.

Did my patrol area (AMsomething), but somehow the game doesn't credit me.. so dam that.. time to go awandering.
Doing a lot of speed estimation via bow wave size.. getting it within a knot or so. but have to get real close so not to miss.

I must be a magnet for these liners... my last torp on my way home.
Over-estimated speed by at least 1.5 knots, but a bow hit is good as it drives the flooding in.

The ship went nose down until the deck and no further... so I started shelling from behind.
The previous day I tried it amidships on a similar ship and it sent a fireworks display my way. This time I'm careful.

It was still going around at about 5 knots with me hiding in the stern shadow. 31 APs and about 10HE's later (only got about 35% hit rate), it went down in seconds... it was fast.

Funny thing is that I got BDU whinging about my status.. so thought I'm on the way home I'll pamper him with a status report. BDU replies that there's something happening in my area.
Well yes.. It's me, I'm happening!...

Karl says I'm an Ace.. EDIT.. just remembered - it was my 3rd patrol patrol. The patrols don't last long..3-4 weeks.

So.. there I am floating between the minefields off 'Port of Ness' and 'Shegra', waiting for some action.... it's quiet for a week, crew are getting restless, but I get the 'raving' bosun to whip them into shape... No sooner that happens and the whole coast lights up with action and I cannot get the torpedoes loaded fast enough..

A two ship convoy... decide to target the tanker (naturally )

Overestimate the speed again

Forget to adjust torp speed for ship slow down .. but a good hit.

Decide to let that one go.. as I've made enough noise already...

So turn around on 310.. and get out there fast... an hour or two later another cruncher is loud on the hydrophone..
Can I not get any rest..

Line up... no time for 'rulers' and a visual overestimate again...
Two torps .. one missed.

This time I made no mistake.. adjusting for my overestimate and damge slowdown... Bang on target

I'm out of control here...
Happy Days

At nightfall I make tracks back to my assigned grid... somehow the game has not recognised the time I've been here.

Half way down the 'road' the lookouts scream... Coming out the shadows, two BIG ships on a sunday afternoon holiday cruise... I cannot believe my eyes

Patroclus... One torp missed.. but it went down.

Now this Rawalpindi I have no idea what the captain was thinking.. he made no attempt to run off in the other direction.. so I assisted.
This was still afloat and looked like it was not going down... so had to track it and reload.
2nd torp did the trick... and I raced off in the other direction again with only external torps left.
