WELCOME ABOARD!

Yes, SHO is advertised as Free To Play. They expect to make money from people who don't want to wait for upgrades and goodies, and are willing to pay for them now. I've hear that this kind of thing does indeed make money for the company. We'll see how it goes.

Free to play certainly does work, as does pay to upgrade - it just kind of sneaks up on you if you really get into it. I didn't think I'd pay to upgrade free stuff, but Rise of Flight is an excellent example of me doing so.

People still buy DLCs for paid games, well it's just the same. Unless you want to grind your way through to upgrades, which works in F2P.

I looked at SHO and said I'd never pay for something like that. Then I did a detailed study of ROF (mainly watching lots of videos) and found myself licking my lips in anticipation of getting a computer that will run it.

Yeah, I'd pay for the right content.

Not exactly, an investigation made last year about the games on Facebook, showed that only 3.7 % paid money on the game they played there. (I've been searching for it, but I can't find this report)

But maybe the people in this forum are more generous and are more willing to pay.

I'm certainly not. Not because I wouldn't, but this just doesn't look like my kind of game. I doubt I'll play it at all.

This is how I feel.

I wouldn't mind paying Ubisoft for what I consider a good game. I accept the principle that anyone who provides a good or service I want deserves to get something in return, 100%. However, Ubisoft seems to have the attitude that they should be able to make a good profit on a very poorly finished/unfinished product.

I have also come to think that all these mediocre Silent Sub Stuff games are using up all the oxygen, and leading to both customers and developers being soured on the matter. Why is it so much to ask, for a Good and Complete version of SH IV? I would be happy to pay for that!

...because publishers treat gamers as addicts and without competition they have free rein to take as much piss as they think they can get away with on developers and consumers.

This is why crowd funding holds hope as the developers have to reach out and appeal to their market 4TW 2Day.
