radar Evidence for asteroid impact, and consequences for evolution

https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-61013740

During the 1980ies the theory that an asteroid ended the existence of "the dinosaurs" was regarded as "spectacular, but more something for the yellow press". That an asteroid hit the southern gulf of Mexico is quite certain, but not what happened after this. Some dinosaur species lived on for a few million years after this; so this impact sure did have a major effect on world climate which can be witnessed everywhere, and lead to the extinction of a lot of species, but not all.

Maybe this gets mankind some more information.. i hope this production can be seen here on some tv channel.

OT asteroids are hitting the earth all the time, mostly small ones. The intelligence of "humans" may be doubted when 99 percent of their satellites are directed toward the earth, coming soon along with nuclear warheads.

true enough...but I'd really rather be taken by surprise than worrying about it for months in advance ala Deep Impact or Melancholia depressing flicks. @ MODERATOR: please move this to my "we're so dead" thread.

I think even more interesting is a new theory which suggests another extinction event impact occurring only 13,000 years ago or so. Might answer a lot of question why we have so little evidence of our existence such as structures, language, writing etc etc, before that time.

re Aktungbby
True but maybe at some point mankind will be able to really divert a threat of this kind.. this is of course scifi at this point, even a very big bomb will do nothing to a big asteroid other than impressive fireworks.
But think positive, maybe there is no volcano or asteroid needed ..

re Rockstar
i am not so well skilled when it comes to human evolution, during this planet's existence there were and still are a lot of extiction events when it comes to other-than-human life. "Human" life is not exactly defined, i take it homo erectus already advanced in the last great ice age , but this cold unpleasantness spread over 2,7 million years, and only ended appx. 12,000 years ago.

There are not much cultural objects found from this time but man already evolved during the ice age in Africa, and there are objects from 600,000 to 200,000 years ago. The spears found in Schoeningen/Germany are said to be from homo heidelbergensis and around 290.000 bis 337.000 years old, but there is at least one earlier found in England (up to now). Most founds are from Africa, much better climate there at the time. And there was definitely already hunting going on.
As L. Niven said "how much intelligence do you need to eat plants", so hunting was surely an action that required intelligence and planning.

So this homo sapiens is believed to have evolved from some 300,000 years ago, in Africa, from different types and species and along with the Neanderthal man. The different species interbred and traded, but nothing like buildings or such have been found. The first constructions found yet are from around 13,000 b.c., at the end of the million-year long ice age. I take it you mean this time and those structures with the theory of an extinction event?
