Default Question about Soviet torpedoes

I got hold of the Soviet Waterways mod and tried that out. I know very little about Soviet naval history. Was it typical for WWII soviet torpedoes to have no gyroscopic guidance? The only way I can score a hit is by shooting a stationary target (auto targeting does nothing except show you a solution). The game has a table built in that I presume is used for knowing what angle to fire the torpedoes from.

In missions sneaking into a harbor, however, the lack of steerable torpedoes isn't a big problem. I just wanted to learn more about this (lack of gyro steering).

From the limited amount of info I've been able to gleam on the english-speaking web. Soviet torpedos of the time had gyroscopic guidance but it only served to make sure they ran straight and true. Soviet Submarine captains were conducting their attacks in the same manner as was done in WW1, with a surprising degree of accuracy in spite of the handicap.
