The Long Run

Defended Sea Lane

In an attempt to reduce losses of merchant ships, NATO has implemented a defended sea lane running from New York to Brest. By providing AAW and ASW protection, U.S. and French carrier groups are a vital element in this strategy. If the Soviets can eliminate these forces, the sea lane will become vulnerable to Soviet air and submarine attack.

Get the Kiev

"The Kiev class had proven to be one of the most successful units of the war. Its 20 ASW helicopters allowed it to smother any submarines it detected, and its own defenses combined with those of its escorts made it a difficult target. That didn't stop NATO from trying."

This scenario was inspired by the situation described in the "Battles of the Third World War" compilation from Game Designers' Workshop.

Yeah. That's a TOUGH one. I have yet to beat it.

I'm kicking around the idea of grabbing the Ultimate edition of Harpoon. I suppose it's worth it getting the Commanders edition... plus the version of ANW that they will hopefully continue to patch till it's perfect.

Rest assured, "Get the Kiev" can be won (at least in H3 -- I don't know about ANW or HUE.)

If your heart is set on HUCE, you may as well get it. However, if you can wait a little while longer, the patch to update your ANW 394 to HUE 3.10 is supposed to be in final testing. So, maybe next week, month, or year.

It seems like that patch has been in "Final testing" for over a year now.
Plus, I'm thinking by taking the plunge and getting HUE it will set me up for the continued patching that is constantly needed.

You are right. It has been 2 years since the 3.9.4 release in March 2009.

I agree that it seems to take forever. If they were actually testing the game code, it would be one thing. However, they seem to come up with as many bugs after 1 month of "testing" as they do with 24 months.

Baltic Sea Struggle

In the winter of 2011, tensions between NATO and Russia increased.

A Russian strategic pipeline was cut during winter, causing a giant environmental disaster. Sweden, Finland, and Russia accused each other of negligence, terrorism, and state-initiated protectionism of their own industry.

All three nations sent their ready squadrons of patrol ships into the Baltic.

It just goes to show that when you write a good scenario that actually works, you don't need to publicly beg for someone to play it or ask for feedback.

Just wait until we try that scenario in MP! You will find that it plays totally differently.

15.1 The Last Exocet [Variant]

The Argentines believed that they had damaged Hermes in the attack of May 25, which claimed Atlantic Conveyor. With only one AM.39 missile remaining, the target needed to be selected for maximum effect: Invincible.

The Argentines knew that the British carrier was operating about 100nm east of Puerto Argentino (Port Stanley), based on where the Harriers were disappearing from the radar screen of the TPS-43. The attackers planned to bypass the British screen of ships to the south, then turn north for the final attack run.

This scenario was inspired by the situation depicted by Ed Kettler in the Sea of Dragons publication from Clash of Arms.

Korean Counter

A period of rising tension, sparked by the U.S. announcement for withdrawal of the 2nd Division, has characterized relations between North and South Korea. Border incursions by North Korean special forces have increased and several acts of terrorism, carried out in strategic cities (e.g. the destruction of Pusan's main railway signaling centre), have been identified as occurring under North Korean instructions. The rhetoric issuing from both governments has become increasingly bellicose. In order to show commitment, the U.S. has moved the 7th Fleet to the East China Sea and has sent across both ground reinforcements and munitions. Although a number of U.N. resolutions have been passed, condemning the belligerent moves, only the U.K. and the Australians offer more than vocal support. A U.K. Marine Commando is flown to Twenty-Nine Palms and two frigates sent from the Gulf. Australia offers a battalion of troops, a DDG, and two frigates.

This scenario was inspired by the situation depicted by Andy Doty in the Sea of Dragons publication from Clash of Arms.
