Icon2 The Critical Drinker gives Das Boot a look

Quote:
Das Boot is a 1981 German submarine series, directed by Wolfgang Petersen, and it's possibly one of the best of its kind ever made.

I say when it comes to Sub movies and The hunt for Red October is second, while Crimson Tide is third. (those are the sub movies I have seen)

A pretty good assessment.

I don't know. I mean this falls just behind "Down Periscope" for me.

Das Boot was what stirred my interest in submarines.
I expect you are aware, but I was surprised to learn recently that the actual lead engineer on U 96, who was a central character in the series, is still alive.
Although he declined any involvement in the filming, at the venerable age of 103, Mr. Friedrich Grade is now providing his unique insight toward the development of the sub sim Crush Depth, which will be epic if it sees fruition.
