0802 - Sunrise. Weather and Sea unchanged in 36h.

0823 - Battery charged to 75%.

0921 - Qu.8775AE top right - Diving for FuMB Detection (no Magic Eye) in 192°true, E=11000. Just before closing the C/T Hatch, a twin engine A/C is sighted on a northerly heading. At A-Meter no Wabos and no sound contact.

0930 - Setting for Reception Depth; T=20 at 0936.

0941 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 20min. and 1.1nm.

0945 - Charging batteries as before (83.6%).

1001 - Qu.8775AE center - Diving for FuMB Detection (no Magic Eye) in 358°true, E=9300. Right after, A/C sighted bearing 104°, E=5800, on course South. At T=18 two Wabos behind the boat - no damages. Submerged cruise at A-20.

1032 - Reception Depth.

1036 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 35min. and 1.7nm.

1037 - Boat ventilated and Compressed Air Supply filled; Battery 83.6%.

1041 - Charging batteries as before.

1046 - Qu.8775AE bottom left - ALARM! for A/C as at 1001. Sighting at same time as FuMB detection (Magic Eye).

1048 - At A-Meter no Wabos and no Sound Contact.

1053 - Submerged cruise at A-20.

1200 - Qu.8775AE - Days Run: 87.0 nm - ↗ 52.0nm (4h 16') - ↘ 35.0nm (19h 44')
Total: 2368.6 nm (10days 14h 17') - ↗ 2230.7 nm (8days 7h 49') - ↘ 137.9 nm (2days 6h 28')

1215 - Reception Depth.

1246 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 46min. and 2.3nm - since Etmal (Total: 2h and 5.9 nm). Weather and Sea unchanged in 40h; Visibility 5nm.

1248 - Boat ventilated and Compressed Air Supply filled.

Directly after surfacing, a twin-engine A/C is right on top of the boat and drops two Wabos that fall wide to Port - no damages. Afterwards, the A/C flies off on course South. Boat remains surfaced.

Cmdr.: Seems that the A/C was just surprised to see us, as we were to see it.

1301 - Charging batteries as before.

1346 - Qu.8777AE center - Diving for FuMB Detection (no Magic Eye) in 208°true, E=14600.

1353 - At A-Meter no Wabos and no Sound Contact.

1403 - A-20.

1407 - Reception Depth.

1411 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 25min. and 1.2nm.

1416 - Charging batteries as before.

1426 - Qu.8777AE bottom left - FuMB Detection (Magic Eye) in 152°true., E=15400 and shortly after a twin-engine A/C is sighted. At the same time the boat is approached by a twin-engine A/C from 20°true, E=3600. Increasing speed to A.K. The boat is now attacked by two twin-engine A/C with machine gun fire but no Wabos - no damages.

1429 - ALARM! At A-Meter, Wabos at 1434 and at 1435 - no damages.

1450 - Submerged cruise at A-20.

1615 - Reception Depth.

1619 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 1h 50min. and 5.4nm.
Weather and Sea unchanged in 44h.

1620 - Boat ventilated and Compressed Air Supply filled.

1630 - Charging batteries as before (85%).

1649 - Qu.3313AL top right - FuMB-Detection (no Magic Eye) in 70°true, E=17000 - is in the area of the last attack at 1426. Boat remains surfaced. Charging interrupted.

1700 - Continuing charging as before.

1830 - Batteries charged (1h 50min. for 15%). 1/3-Ahead.

1853 - ALARM! for Sunderland in 14°true, E=7100, on course 190° (no FuMB Detection, also no Magic Eye).

1854 - At A-10 no Wabos and no Sound Contact.

1908 - At A-20, sound contact with warship bearing 284°, E=26000, very fast on course NW.

1918 - By now, three warships can be heard. S-Tiefe. Nothing can be seen with the A-Periscope.

1921 - Reception Depth. Now four warships are heard. Per sound contact are located in Qu.3239AL center right, on course 300°, speed 15kn.

1950 - Number of warships increases to five and at 1950 to six.

2003 - Sundown. By now seven warships are heard, are on search patterns in Qu.3235AL.

Cmdr.: I suspect a U-Hunter Group working together with the Sunderland sighted at 1853.

2052 - S-Tiefe. Lost sound contact to U-Hunter Group.

2055 - Surfaced after 2h 02min. and 6.1nm.
Weather and Sea unchanged in 2 days.

2100 - Boat ventilated (CO₂ was 1.3%); Compressed Air supply filled (was 260Atü). Charging batteries as before (95%).

2130 - Batteries charged (30min. for 5%).

2227 - FuMB Detecion (no Magic Eye) in 316°true, E=8300. Twin Engine A/C on course 137°. Increasing speed to A.K. Spotlights, Machine Gun fire, two Wabos that fall wide to Port.

2228 - After the flyover ALARM! E=3500. At T=20 several well placed Wabos. Water entry in the aft torpedo compartment, which is quickly stopped. Tube VI is now completely unoperational. Pressure hull has taken 3% damage, is now 5%; Safe Diving Depth is now 218.5m. Several wounded crew members in the aft torpedo compartment.

2238 - At A-Meter no further Wabos and no Sound contact.

2255 - Submerged cruise at A-20.

2322 - All men are back on station. One MechMt.(T) (BtsMt.Lutz A. Fischer) is listed as "Shaken".

2327 - Reception Depth.

2332 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 1h 04min. and 3.2nm
Weather and Sea unchanged in 2 days and 3 hours.

2335 - Boat ventilated and Compressed Air Supply filled.

0013 - Qu.3226AL bottom left - FuMB Detection in 71°true, E=16000 (no Magic Eye) - is in the area of the last attack on 23 March, 2227. Boat remains surfaced.

0056 - Qu.3225AL bottom left - Diving for FuMB Detection in 127°true (no Magic Eye), E=13700 - is located in Qu.3229AL center. Just before diving, Magic Eye detection with A/C in 119°true, E=7400, on course NW.

0100 - At A-Meter no Wabos and no Sound contact.

0110 - Submerged crusie at A-20.

0152 - T=20.

0156 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 1h and 3.0nm.
Weather and Sea unchanged in 2 days and 5.5 hours.
Boat ventilated and Compressed Air Supply filled; Battery 95%. 1/3-Ahead.

Found both Flak guns damaged from the air attack on 23 March, 2227 - can not be repaired until daylight.

0412 - After watch change, the Morale of the MechMt.(T) is listed again as "Normal".

0559 - Qu.3163AL top right - FuMB Detection in 95°true, E=16000 (no Magic Eye), is located in Qu.3241AL center right.

0601 - Magic Eye Detection of A/C in 60°true, on course 297°. Boat remains surfaced.

0638 - Qu.3162AL center right - Morning Dawn -
FuMB Detection in 335°true (no Magic Eye), E=16000, is located in Qu.3138AL center right.
Shortly after, boat is approached by a twin-engine A/C from 355°true, no wabos and no machine gun fire. The A/C circles over the boat and flies off on course ESE. Boat remains surfaced.

0815 - Sunrise. Weather and Sea unchanged in 2 days and 12h.

0817 - Qu.3164AL top right - Diving for FuMB Detection in 100°true (no Magic Eye), E=7300. Just before closing the C/T hatch, a twin-engine A/C is sighted bearing 180°, E=2700. At T=20, 3-4 Waboss behind the boat - at A-Meter no damages.

0840 - Submerged cruise at A-20.

0912 - T=20.

0917 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 1h and 3.0nm.
Weather and Sea unchanged.

0918 - Boat ventilated and Compressed Air Supply filled; Battery 93.6%. 1/3-Ahead.

0931 - Qu.3156AL top center - Diving from A/C in 2°true (no FuMB or Magic Eye detection), E=8000, on course ESE.

0935 - At A-Meter no Wabos and no Sound contact.

0955 - Submerged cruise at A-20.

1116 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 1h 40min. and 5.0nm.

1328 - Boat rises to T=18 and levels out at T=20 at 1330.

1335 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 1h 35min. and 5.1nm - since Etmal (Total: 1h 39min. and 5.4nm).
Weather and Sea unchanged in 2 days and 17 hours - medium heavy swell.
Boat ventilated. Damaged Flak guns cannot be repaired due to swell continously washing over the bridge.

1340 - Charging batteries as before (86.4%).

1344 - Qu.3157AL center - A/C sighted in 100°true, on course WNW (no FuMB or Magic Eye detection).

1345 - "ALARM!" for Sunderland at E=8600.

1346 - At A-10 no Wabos and no Sound contact.

1400 - At A-Meter setting for Reception Depth; 96rpm.

1405 - T=20.

1410 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 25min. and 1.5nm.

1411 - Compressed Air Supply filled.

1415 - Charging batteries as before.

1431 - Qu.3157AL bottom left - "ALARM!" for Sunderland in 323°true; is initially on course ESE and at E=6200, turns towards the boat (no FuMB or Magic Eye Detection).
At T=25 several Wabos off to port and in due course at A-Meter, further Wabos four different times until 1439 - no damages.

1525 - Setting for Reception Depth.

1530 - T=20.

1536 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 1h 05min. and 3.3nm.

1537 - Boat ventilated and Compressed Air Supply filled.

1540 - Charging batteries as before (85%).

1604 - Qu.3173AL center - Magic Eye Detection and Sighting of A/C in 62°true, E=7000 - in the area of the last attack.
Interrupting Charging Process. A/C is on westerly heading and crosses our stern at a distance of 4200m, when suddenly it turns towards the boat, approaching from 0°true.

1606 - "ALARM!" for Wellington bomber. At T=30 two Wabos off to port.

1608 - At A-Meter another two Wabos behind the boat - no damages. Boat remains submerged.

1644 - Submerged cruise at A-20.

1800 - After dinner, setting for Reception Depth.

1805 - T=20.

1811 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 2h 05min. and 6.1nm.
Weather and Sea unchanged in 2 days and 22 hours.

1813 - Boat ventilated and Compressed Air Supply filled.

1816 - Charging batteries as before (83.6%).

1821 - Qu.3175AL top right - FuMB Detection (no Magic Eye) in 80°true, E=14000. Interrupting Charging Process.

1823 - A/C sighted in 37°true, E=6500, seems to fly on course 282°.

1827 - FuMB Detection now in 310°true (no Magic Eye), E=14000. Suspect same A/C. Continuing Charging Process at 1831.

1905 - Qu.3175AL center - Magic Eye Detection and A/C sighting in 112°true, E=5700. "ALARM!". At T=30 1-2 Wabos far off - no damages.

1909 - At A-Meter again Wabos - no damages. Boat remains submerged.

2005 - Setting for Reception Depth.

2010 - T=20.

2015 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 1h 10min. and 3.5nm
Weather and Sea unchanged in 3 days.

2016 - Boat ventilated and Compressed Air Supply filled.

2017 - Sundown.

2020 - Charging batteries as before (86.4%).

2150 - Batteries charged (1h 30min. for 13.6%). 1/3-Ahead.

Cmdr.: Strong air patrol in this part of the North-Atlantic. The Magic Eye (and FuMB) has worked well. Still, some A/C seem to have the new rader gear installed, which cannot be detected by our FuMB systems (mostly Sunderlands).
