No, that's the remake of CC5 "The Longest Day". Ow and CC4 was Battle of the bulge.

Being the CC fan I am I might get that, have you played CC Modern Combat?? I'm tempted to get it...but I'm afraid it will lose the flavor with the modern weaponry/vehicles

The longest day is pretty nice remake, new campaign map, new battle maps etc. and you also get the normal CC5 with it.
No, I havent tried Modern Combat, pretty much because of the reason you said, it'll propably lose it's strong points with modern weapons. |

The new sounds and effects are awesome (for the engine) when I got the chance to shot my first round on the Marder it looked really nice also you can now identify easily the weapons (MG42, Garand, Mortars) indeed a great remake I think Close Combat II would be more awesome if they made a remake of it (also Russian Front deserves one)

CC3 has been remade already, Cross of Iron I believe it's called. Tho, I havent played it nor looked upon how much they've changed. Also, CC4 has been remade with a name of "Close Combat: Wacht am Rhein". Again, same as with CC:CoI, I dont know how much they've improved it, but looking at the feature list it seems to be like the CC5 remake. Need to get my hands on that one in the near future.

Oh yeah...
There's a community that still plays PG2 regularly http://panzercentral.com/forum/index.php They don't only play, but continue refining/creating MODS, scenarios, maps, campaigns. And they have a speciality called Campaign Challenges (CC), witch means many ppl play the same campaign and report theyr progresses / decisions and compare themselves with the others and discuss tactics... That game is still pretty alive after so long... Btw, there's also the possibility to play it vs humans (Warzone)

And they just keep trying and trying... but my MG42s stop their advance once again (and total victory this time, fricking finally ).
Suckers! Meanwhile, I'm starting to lose the beach sectors after keeping them contested for 4 turns. Just cant hold back the tanks with all my AT guns destroyed. Tho, I did manage to push the allies back in 2 or 3 beaches. Even if I lose the beaches, the allies are faced with my panzer divisions (StugIII's bitches!!! ). As for the airborne landings, I only have 1 sector that has allies para's still holding up, but that's going to change when I get something else than those darn osttroops there (they always run out of ammo and I have to start asking for truce..) |

Yes, the PG2 community is alive and well! I have the Adlerskorps WWII stand alone version, big download at 1.3 GB, but its really done well. Plenty of campaigns to keep you busy, I tried the Ethiopians against the Italians, talk about dfficult, lol Haven't tried the Campaign Challenge yet, its been so long since I've used this sim, going to take a bit to remember all the different angles to winning.
I've got Peoples General up and running, even this sim is freeware. Many mods for it also. The 19th century mods are a nice change, best to maneuver to a good defensive position, and let them come to you. Been holding off Wellington at Waterloo quite well using this method. Moving to Western Europe with the "Red Danger" mod is nice to see, trying to take over the Scandanavian countries with the new "United German" war machine looks like a challenge! Look out Sweden, here i come! LOL |
