I crash to desktop if it is installed...

I have tried multiple mods. Just like vanilla version I randomly crash to desk top in-game. I think I am about ready to give up on this POS game.

Hello All,

After trying to figure out for two days how to make Speech Recognition work with my mod soup using (TheDarkWraith's NewUi's TDC 7_5_0 test version 18), I finally figured out the problem I was having and thought I would share this solution for whoever it may concern if any.


(Using Speech Recognition MiTon's Edition - v0.4.1 -english)
if you're getting a import python error, module speech recognition not found message, script aborted. Check you're menu_1024_768.ini file located: sh5 install dir data\menu\pages

add this line of code at the bottom
**=6F;Speech Recognition

also change,

[Main groups and pages]
GroupsNo=**

** means whatever number you're ini file may end with add next series of numbers example, if you're file ends with 100 , make 101...

Example,
100=F0;Page background
101=6F;Speech Recognition

Hopefully this helps someone out there

Sometimes when I order a new heading, it responds with new course *** degrees and starts turning and it also orders 1/2 speed even though i didn't give that command. What do I need to do to stop that?

G'day All

Just getting back into SH5 after a couple of years away.(real life getting in the way!)

I have just about got all my mods up to date and stable.

Just wondering if "Speech Recognition_MiTons_NewUI_Editon_v0.4.1_english" is the latest version available?

I try to use headphones as little as possible (worked for 35 years around jet noise so trying to save what's left of my hearing!) so does the program discriminate against background noise enough to still be useable and is it a install in bunker mod?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Well...after running around town for hours today looking for a desktop microphone without any luck, I finally settled for my old headphone mike and got this speech recognition up and running.

I have to say that this mod is just fabulous for the immersion that it adds!!! Being able to tell the WO what to put into the TDC while you are spinning the RAOBF is amazing!!

All we need now is for some smart person to add TDW's hydroplane mod so we can say " bow planes 10 degrees down,...aft planes 2 degrees up!!" then we'll be really cooking with gas!

When you print out the reference card for this mod, all 111 pages of it, it makes you realise how much free work, time and effort the modders of this community put into their mods for our enjoyment.

At the moment I'm running 106 activated mods not including TDW's EXE patcher. That must equate to tens of thousands of hours work these people have given us for nix to make our time playing SH5 more enjoyable.

What can I say but a heartfelt THANK YOU SO MUCH to all you Modders for your gift!!!

I've been using this mod for a day or so now and all I can say is EXCELLENT!!

There are some phrases I would like to alter because I try not to use headphones and sometimes when the AI acknowledge the command, it creates a loop that has some interesting consequences to say the least!

I would also like to change a few phrases as well that are more in keeping with our local terminology like "Chief Engineer" or "Chief" rather than Leading Engineer etc.

I have tried to edit the SHSpeech_Commands.xml with notepad and everything looks good, but in game none of the changes I've made work. I've searched through the other files in the mod and can't see anything else directly linked to the actual speech phrases.

I have very basic knowledge when it comes to this type of stuff and obviously I'm doing something blatantly wrong. Any advice on how to go about this endeavour would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All,

was wondering if anyone has managed to get this working with win 8.1?

I recently reinstalled SH5 after a break away from the game for a year or so, having upgraded from Vista on the interim. Am trying to reinstall this mod again (love it for the extra layer of immersion it adds!) but can't get it to work at all; voice recognition on PC itself works just fine, mic works fine, but mod's speech test program doesn't 'hear' anything and even though activating the mic icon in game, there is no response to my spoken orders...

wondering of its related to win 8.1?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice/suggestions...

Not sure about win 8.1, but it works fine on win 7. The later OS are usually backwards compatible so I can't imagine that would be a problem.

I would suggest downloading the latest version in from here http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...=3085&act=down, choose your version and reinstall the mod last with JSGME.

I have found that if one of the files has somehow become corrupted, it will turn on but nothing will work.

I am using "Speech Recognition_MiTonsEdition_v0.4_english" with "The Wolves of Steel v1.3" megamod, which I highly recommend if you are returning to SH5 after a year or so away. Saves all the heartache trying to get a balanced and stable mod mix.

On my setup, when you press the microphone icon on the GUI, it brings up the Speech Recognition dialogue box. The first press of the activation button freezes the game for a second or two but remains unlit. It is then active but in the "not listening" state. You need to press the button again to bring on the yellow light, or speak the phrase..."speech com listen" to bring it to the "listening" state.

You can check if the mod has actually installed correctly by checking you have "skwas.SHSpeechEngine.dll" and "SHSpeechEngineTest.exe" in the main Silent Hunter 5 folder. Also check you have "SHSpeech_Commands.xml, SHSpeech_Grammar.xml, SHSpeech.xslt and grammar.dtd" in the Silent Hunter 5/Data/Sound/Speech folder.

This mod does certainly add to the immersion but as I don't like to use headphones can sometimes be frustrating!

Drifting peacefully out in the middle of an empty ocean, admiring the sunset.... listening to a song on the gramophone....1 torpedo left and hoping for that last big juicy target to come along then out of the blue...."flooding tube 1"...."los"....."torpedo missed sir!" AARRGGHHHH!!!!!....GET ME MY LUGER!!!!

Heh I feel your pain there Kaleun ~ I'm trying to reinstall this mod despite the fact I can recall on at least one occasion ordering course changes while submerged and evading pursuit only to have my idiot crew decide I had in fact ordered the boat to the surface!

can confirm working on windows 8.1 64bit
...
perhaps this was discussed before, but ordering "new course 2xx degrees" always sends me to course 0xx. other directions are fine.
anyone has the same/knows a solution?

Hi maluslaus

You will find that certain orders work and some do not that should according to the orders manual.

I use to use this but started getting game freezes especially in the attack station.

Very useful for shifting between the stations and if you have to crash dive.

However in certain situations it can leave you vunerable.

I think it copes better with some accents and not with others.

I'm trying to get this to work on Win7.
But I keep getting an error when running the SHSpeechEngineTest saying "Speech engine could not be started. The remote server returned an error: (500) internal server.."

Been trying to get this working for hours now..
The regular win7 speech recognition software works without any issues.

EDIT: SOLUTION FOUND!
