Im preaching that since years. The power and influence of the pharamceutical industry is so dramatically underestimated. But their reach goes as deep and wide as to massively interfering with the curriculae for medicine students - to make sure doctors of the next egneraiton will sbmissoiveloy serve as the salesmen of pharmceutical "products" that industry wants them to be. Drug dealers, in other words. We make a boig show of fighting heroin and cocaine and meth and all that - but the drug dealing of the industry causes much more harm and also economical damage than the formally criminalised drug dealers on thge street do. The opioid crisis in the US is just one expression of it, or the costs of the US health care system that stand in no relation to the achieved medicla benefits - it costs twice as much if not more than the German one, but it does not deliver twice as good a service, in no way. This whole system is designed to constantly reinforce itself and to nip in the bud all attempts to counter-control it from the outside by allowing the system itself to have its hands in the game again from beginning on of such control attempts in order to compromise the attempt from the start.

If you play inside the system, accept to play the game by its rules, you have no chance to ever alter it. The same like in politics and political parties.

While reading it I came to think of your post.
