Default Horizon band fix

I know OLC did this years ago for the 16k environment. Unfortunately he doesn't receive private messages and hasn't been here in years anyway.
I'd like to try to eliminate the band on the stock 8k environment if possible. Anyone know his steps on how he did it for the 16k ?

Thanks Bob. Much is about extending the horizon which I'm not interested in but the comments about the sky, cloud, and fog domes may be a help.
Time to take a look and see.

Not much around for what you are looking for. There may be a nugget in that thread somewhere. Have you tried reaching out to Hitman?

I'm sure the sky, cloud, and fog domes are crucial to it. I've found the fog section in scene.dat but not one for the sky and cloud domes.
Other sky/cloud info. but not seeing that.
No, haven't contacted Hitman but think I will. Maybe I'll dig around OLC2 too and compare that to stock for clues, even though it's a 16k env.

What band ? Do you mean the fog band over the horizon ? If so, you should try in this order :

1. Remove the fog texture.
2. Modify the 3D model of the fog or its UV-mapping.

It's that narrow band from the horizon line to the cloud or sky layer. Most visible at night as a narrow black band.
16k envs had it too until OLC figured out how to get rid of it.

As far i can tell the "Horizon Band" exist on the GWX 16k ENV before the version of GWX v30 16k came out. For example it still exist in GWX v2.1 16k. To see the difference visual compare these versions inGame.
Such a Band does not exist in unmodified SH3 nor in GWX v30 8k.

Right, OLC fixed it for 3.0 via OLC 2 (Gold, etc.) Iirc, he fixed it on NYGM's 16 too.
On my installs anyway, the band is easily visible at night with stock and 3.0 8k.
No big deal though; I'm more curious of the "mechanics" behind the fix vs. anything else.

If you just want to remove the band during night, then you should only edit the fog color in EnvColors_Atl.dat

Yes, but messing with the colors in those files messes up the sensors I believe.

No, only the color of the lights (sun, ambiant) has an effect on the AI visual sensor.

Hmmm....I seem to recall OLC stating that messing witht the EnvColors files does too.
Right, here it is.
